Based off the Kid Cudi we know now, listening to unreleased music from dude is like hearing a completely different artist. From his lyrics to his vision, in general, everything is much more blatant. Take the following line from this guitar-fused fossil, “To The Top,” for example.
“I don’t spit about guns & drugs, what the f*%k, because I don’t know about guns & drugs.”
At the time Cudder wrote and recorded that line, he probably felt it was somewhat groundbreaking. In a genre fueled by those two things specifically, saying you don’t partake is almost like saying you don’t have post moves and play center. But, knowing the off-key route his path called for, he did it anyways. Then, after everything he questioned in this song solidified itself by fruition, public problems with illicit powders proved the Man On The Moon could indeed learn new things. Both, for better and for worse.
If this is the Scott Mescudi you relate to, light one and soak this throwback up. Because, folks, the wide-eyed MC on this song ain’t coming back.
