Appearing on Fox News Channel’s America’s Newsroom this morning, Bachmann addressed the Late Night controversy: “I wasn’t aware of it at all. I didn’t find out until later yesterday, and at that point, I was traveling and making my way to the presidential debate,” she said. “I am hoping to be able to speak to Jimmy Fallon today. I don’t have anything against Jimmy Fallon. I love him, he’s a kick. It was a great opportunity to be on the show. I’d love to go back again. But I think the point is, if that had been Michelle Obama who had come out on the stage, and if that song had been played for Michelle Obama, I have no doubt that NBC would have apologized to her and likely they could have fired the drummer, at least suspended him. None of that happened from NBC. And this is clearly a form of bias on the part of the Hollywood entertainment elite, but it’s also, I think, sexism as well. This wouldn’t be tolerated if this was Michelle Obama; it shouldn’t be tolerated if it’s a conservative woman either.”
The Minnesota congresswoman received a personal letter from NBC’s vice president for late night programming, Doug Vaughan, a day after she appeared on the show. As Bachmann walked onstage, the show’s band had played a snippet of a 1985 Fishbone song entitled “Lyin’ Ass B—-.” Vaughan wrote that the incident was “not only unfortunate but also unacceptable,” Bachmann spokeswoman Alice Stewart told The Associated Press. She said Vaughn offered his sincerest apologies and said the band had been “severely reprimanded.”
Fallon also apologized to Bachmann when they spoke earlier Wednesday, she said. He’d tweeted earlier, saying he was “so sorry about the intro mess.”
The Roots’ bandleader, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, has said the song was a “tongue-in-cheek and spur-of-the-moment decision.”
Bachmann, who is lagging in presidential polls, has spent the week promoting her new autobiography in national television interviews.

?uestloves comment is ice
She does know Michelle Obama is a woman tho…right?
but she at least knows what sexism is tho…right?
The difference is that Michelle is the first lady, and Bachmann is a lying ass bitch.
That comment was hella funny DK!!
@Cell- That’s what I was thinking. She’s kind of shooting herself in the foot, by making it obvious that it didn’t get played just because she’s a woman. If Newt had been on the show I’m sure the Roots would have played a song called something like Stubborn Old Mule.
No one’s going to “severely reprimand” the Roots, and that first block quote talking about just “firing the drummer” like he’s nobody is just rediculous.
If it’s sexism, then she’s a man. And if she’s a man, then she’s a lying ass bitch. Case closed.
God this broad is dumb
@Greed and Cell- Yeah she shouldn’t have framed tried to frame it as against her as a woman. Granted it could be argued the lyrics themselves are sexist but that has no bearing on what they did. On a personal level, every show is going to have their own bias and show it with their guest. On a professional level, every guest should be given a simulacrum of respect, even if you disagree with their stances. But she doesn’t even know how to frame her argument that way.
@DrhipHop85
I see what you’re saying and, no matter the amount of crazy a guest holds, he/she should receive some professional courtesy. I made my grandmother almost start sobbing (she’s a Fox News fanatic) when I mentioned that I found humor in what The Roots did. I still do. However, I can see her point.
Although she knows damn well that if anyone with a left-leaning and/or progressive bent were to appear on a Fox News show, they wouldn’t be shown any professional courtesy towards their views. Like most demagogic right-wing politicians, it’s alright to show that sort of bias on a Fox News show when you don’t agree with the guest’s views; however, when it happens to a right-winged politician on a network program, then it’s not o.k.
@Ryan J
No question about it they would be or they’d be Cam’ron and take over the shit(LOL). That said, it’s not like I sympathize with her. I just see where she could be coming from, at least if she was wanting to air out both sides of the aisle. Instead, she’s more likely ego-hurt and trying to spin it. The only way she could even have a decent argument is if she could show that when men show up they get treated differently than woman. Otherwise, she’s just spinning her chair, so to speak.
Actually thinking about it, the Roots shouldn’t have done it. Bachmann was fading from the collective consciousness and this gives her at least another month on TV. CURSE YOU the ROOTS!!!!! LOL
They coulda played the end of “Roses”
-”Bitch….stupid ass bitch…ol’ dumbass bitch…ol’ dumbass(with more emphasis) bitch”
