Sometimes it has to be deeper than rap. Deeper than what’s on the surface of the lyrical context that puts things into an elevated creative space. Warner Bros. is welcoming Common into the mix with open arms and a blank checkbook so that The Dreamer, The Believer can be everything we want it to be. Half humanitarian, half Hip-Hop-hearted, Common–along with Phil The God & crew–visit the bent but not broken population of Haiti to give the “Sweet” video an authentic feel.

As you watch along, you can get a quick sample of the jazzy hymns of the record, which Complex recounts that Common played for a friend and he replied, “I been waiting 20 years to hear you do some shit like that.”

Sounds promising, to say the least.

Also below, Common provides us with a sneak peak behind the making and meaning of his new single “Blue Sky.” The video will premiere on BET this Friday.
