Christmas just so happens to come several times of year in Hip-Hop. There’s the real Christmas where rappers gift wrap new EP’s to spread yuletide joy and there’s also 4/20 where every rapper strives to be the High Times man of the year. Biggest of all though, there’s Halloween when it pays to keep it gangsta. You may not get to listen to all your candy in one sitting but here’s your one-stop shop for all the rap goodies that’s getting passed out today. And there’s a few notables still left to be released so we’ll update with those as they’re delivered at our e-doorstep.
We were probably the only ones that told you that Fat Joe’s The Darkside Vol. 1 wasn’t all that and low and behold, Vol. 2 is being handed out like Snickers bars from the elderly lady on the corner. But Joey Crack has slimmed down a bit and he’s ready to give critics like me the second round knockout with the help of Raekwon, Jadakiss and French Montana.
Whether or not you’ve been paying attention to Young Chris up onto this point is irrelevant. The Revival is here, Cardiak is a beast on the boards and Vado, Fred The Godson and all of Philly are co-signing the statement. Get down or lay down with the movement. YC is on the up.
The moon is out, the wolves are howling and Jim Jones is on the prowl with the Goonie Goo Goo’s as the preach that Vampire Life. It’s Blood in, Blood out but not a drop wasted. Harlem, stand up!
Young Money’s most slept-on entity is sippin’ on lean and riding clean this Halloween with the clever-titled The Adventures of Drankenstein. If you’re feeling the kid Elvis Freshly b.k.a. Short Dawg, join him, Birdman, Mack Maine, Z-Ro, and the one and only Timbaland for some Jolly Ranchers-in-the-cup type of swag.
Last year, the Buckeye known as LxE For The Uncool gave us a bite-sized EP and he’s just re-upped with a brand new song and fresh. The name Monsters Are Due On Maple Street is derived from Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone and you never know where this black hole will lead you to unless you push play.
Iron Solomon’s loss column in his battle record look like Jay-Z’s ATM receipts with a whole lotta 0′s. If you think he’s letting his guard up for this All Hallows’ Eve, you have another thing coming. Redrum Radio features the steely MC’s tearing up radio freestyles combined with original records and verbal assistance from DMC and Cassidy. Murder in the mirror spells Iron Solomon.
And just for Halloween, we bring you a lot of extra treats instead of tricks. Yes, just for today’s holiday because it doesn’t look like Congress will allow such for too much longer as they push for a “Blacklist Bill.” Enjoy it while it lasts and read this article while you’re letting a few of these tapes download. And if there are powers that be watching over our shoulder, we were sent all the files by manager, publicists or, in some cases, the artists themselves.
