“Family Guy’s” Headed To The Big Screen

By Beware / 10.13.11

Only weeks after talks of The Simpsons ending its double-decade run of network television prominence drew criticism and kudos alike, The Hollywood Reporter’s latest cover boy Seth MacFarlane is publicly considering putting an end to Family Guy, as well. But, that end will come only after he brings his Quahog-based sitcom to the big-screen. That’s right, according to a recent feature in THR, the show’s creator-extraordinaire speaks on finding the right time and send off for his sought-after series, as well as how he’d go about fitting the franchise for movie theaters.

“Part of me thinks that Family Guy should have already ended. I think seven seasons is about the right lifespan for a TV series,” he says of a show that launched its tenth season last month. “I talk to the fans and in a way I’m kind of secretly hoping for them to say we’re done with it. There are plenty of people who say the show is kind of over the hill… but still the vast majority go pale in the face when I mention the possibility.” As he sees it, there’s something to be said for wrapping up the series and doing a movie once every couple of years. “Creatively, that would be the way to do it for me. Do a really fantastic final episode while the show is still strong”

Am I the only one who stopped watching Family Guy years ago, after realizing every joke was based on the same drawn-out schtick? Or, are people actually going to be upset if Peter Griffin and crew make the move from once a week to every couple of years?
