Lecrae did a little sumthin-sumthin in this year’s BET Cypher (while David D. was taking a piss, no doubt) but not many seem to have a clue who he is. Statik Selektah knows exactly the talent he possesses and he’s using it help maintain some Population Control as his new album nears its release date of 10.25.11. We are all God’s children but Lecrae actually has made a sturdy career thriving as a Christian rapper and as everyone has surely witnessed, the majority of them suck. Guess who doesn’t?
Backed by Statik’s enlightening jazzy hymns, Lecrae goes for broke, detailing the roses in the concrete jungle’s struggle to rise from out the asphalt and actually bloom into something worthwhile. Positivity breeds prosperity, people.

Statik Selektah Feat. Lecrae – “Live & Let Live”

Gotta say TC: I take issue with that christian rappers suck crack. Its been a while since I was heavy on that scene, but nah. You’re wrong. Flat out. Lecrae been out for a LONG time, as has Cross Movement and their various affliates, Tunnel Rats, LA Symphony, LPG, and 4th Ave Jones… The majority of christian rappers are dope. The subject matter just gets stale after a while.
To be honest I heard Lecrae’s “Rehab” album since my friend recommended me to listen to it. I was very impressed and it was cool to see him kill his verse on the cypher (he had the most slept on verse).
Blessed.
Been a Lecrae fan since about… 2007. He’s gotten better. First he was in Vibe, then XXL, now he’s on the most (if not ONLY) important part of the BET Hip Hop Awards?
It’s been a long time comin…
Christian Rap is where hiphop should be at. Most of the tracks and albums these days are seriously negative. Positive and truth music is the place to be.
Copping his project, he spit holy water on that BET Cypher, Lacrae is ill!
