There are a lot of things I’ve waited my whole life for. A job I love. The Big Lebowski prequel. A pair of black & blue Air Penny IIs. You know, typical stuff. But, one thing I haven’t waited a second for or even half expected to see was Kid Rock’s son, JR, spitting bars. Yet, on Detroit-producer KeY Wane’s new single entitled, “I Waited My Whole Life For This,” that’s exactly what we get.
Now, the music itself is beyond quality, as the pianist-producer known more for crafting tracks for his longtime pal Big Sean lays down enough tender melodies to rightfully draw attention toward his own path to greatness. But, the bars don’t necessarily maintain the same sentiment. While KeY does an impression of his former Cass Tech classmate, the younger Robert Ritchie dilutes the song’s heart by focusing his bars on some unnamed female he’d probably end just end up smashing by simply name-dropping his pops. Not only is it lazy, but the lack of experience is clear.
So, even though the instrumental itself is worth a few spins, KeY Wane and JR. both need to better their bars in hopes of having anyone hold their breath for whatever they’ve got up next.
