The 2011-2012 Indianapolis Colts Survival Guide In Three Steps

The Colts messed up in one move – and that one move created this position they are in and was done so to keep Peyton happy (which, at the same time, I cannot blame them for – he is Peyton Manning after all)…
They never drafted his [eventual] replacement as not to offend him.
I do not care if you inked a draft to a 5-year deal that never took a snap in the regular season, Manning outplayed and was on the books – they should have drafted a QB 2… perhaps 3 years ago.
I agree with the second opinion 100 percent (besides Young having a “halfway decent career” – unless that was sarcasm lol – you never know online). I personally think that all QBs should sit behind a great starting QB for 1-2 years. Those whom have have always had a much better grasp of the game. Sure you have freaks such as Matt Ryan, Flacco, and Big Ben, but you are not very smart to draft a QB and throw him to the wolves his first year – that usually recipe for a bust.

And while on the subject of football I have a question; can anyone tell me what happened to the delay the FCC implemented to avoid what happened last night with Jaws? I believed there still was a 5 second(?) delay. I heard the expletive live last night and my immediate thought was, “Nah. Cannot be. They have a delay and DEFINITELY would have caught that.”
Just odd that they either:
a) Did not
or
b) That there is no more delay.
Things that make you go “Hmmm.”

Oh yeah, I was definitely joking on that Young sentence. He won a Super Bowl MVP and is in the HOF. Definitely sarcasm lol.

Every Texans fan who celebrated yesterday’s win probably felt their stomach drop reading that.

Damn J. Tins…..That would be hell. Why’d you have to go and plant that idea in my head? haha oh well…we still got this year

Don’t worry, me just writing this means Indy will somehow finish 8-8 lol.

The Colts need to strengthen their running game and their defense AGAINST the run also. Peyton is a crucial key to the Colts offense but last year some weaknesses started to show themselves. Word to TRA, freshly drafted QB’s need to observe & learn on the bench before suiting up for action. I’ll tell you one thing though: Ryan Mallet is going to do BIG things in New England once he gets his chance.

Put the gun down though, Colts faithful. It’s not that bad.
___________
I’m gonna respectfully disagree. I understand the sentiment, but have you ever encountered Colts faithful? They are baaaaaaaaaad sports. It’s gonna be a tough season.
They never drafted his [eventual] replacement as not to offend him.

I’ve always been a fan of the “good enough to start” back-up. Colts should have taking a page out of the Patriots book when Brady went down for the count. Get yourself a playbook/game tape junky back-up, and let your insanely talented o-line and receivers make him look like an all-pro.
IMO, I expect Payton to rebound and come back in rare form for the 2012 season. Too bad they couldn’t lose to the Pack in the SB this season.

J. Tinsley
Oh, Peyton will come back in 2012 with a vengeance. But imagine if Luck is his back up??
And Flea, you’re right. Mallet chilling behind Brady for these years means New England could be dominant for years to come as well.

manning will definitely come back, but us colts fans are hoping 100%…do you know how much shit you do on a daily basis with your neck?(pause)…just think about the times you tried to function on a regular work day and you got a damn crook in your neck…now lets put this on the field with a defensive line on you back, and route running receivers down the field……im still yelling COLTS! either way though.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say no one feels bad for the Colts right now (except for Colts fans).

But imagine if Luck is his back up??
___________
Andrew Luck is Aaron Rodgers on steroids, with a MENSA membership. He’s scary good, and if Indy flops this season they would be crazy not to pick this kid up. On the flip side, there will be plenty of teams willing to trade big market players come draft day if the Colts have a top pick. A busted season may turn out to be the best thing to happen to this team.

You know what is crazy though (about Luck)? I spoke to a friend of his family (an old neighbor whom is still friends with them) and they said that he is not even certain about playing in the NFL. I mean, perhaps I should not be putting this out there but… they said he is not truly committed to the idea and would probably retire after his first contract ran out – IF he even did decide to play in the NFL (he does not need the money or the toll his body would take). They talk about certain players not being dedicated completely and 100 percent to the game… whomever drafts him should definitely take the aforementioned into account.

@TRA that’s interesting. I haven’t hard that info before, but in the grand scheme of life that doesn’t sound too crazy. Either way he’s entering the “league” when he’s done with Stanford if catch my drift.

I know this article is all sort of tongue-in-cheek, but tanking doesn’t work in the NFL for two reasons.
First and foremost, the lack of guaranteed contracts means there’s no way in hell a player is going to purposely perform badly when it could mean he gets cut or doesn’t get good money on his next contract. Why would Kerry Collins (or eventually Curtis Painter, or a defensive player) risk their futures when they might not even play for the Colts in two years when/if Andrew Luck gets drafted by the Colts.
Secondly, playing at anything less than full speed in the NFL leads to injuries.
So while I’m sure the front office would love for this team to tank, the players would never be a part of it.

@sevechild
you’re right. Counting years in the NFL should be like counting dog years (1=7). I can’t see anyone taking a break, but I sure as all heck can see management giving players lower on the depth chart a better look than they probably deserve if they keep playing like week 1. If not to pad their draft status then to preserve their aging veterans and valuable specialists for PM’s return.
The incentive for a player to perform at a high level is essential in a league where little is contractually guaranteed. However, the incentive for a running back or receiver to stay on the field with a sub-par QB is next to nothing if you’re not going to put up numbers. It lowers the field-time-to-play-making ratio and heightens injury risk.
#2 & 3′s on the depth chart and rookies until PM returns if I’m the GM.

The players won’t tank. I’m well aware of that my friend. I’m just saying, from a jokingly (somewhat serious) view point, it’d probably help them in the long run.
Really though, I think it all depends on how good this team actually is. Week 1 really isn’t enough time to judge. Now if they look this bad after like Week 6, then we may be on to something.

^ i just want to pause a moment and thank the Lord that football season is back. The best thing about the lockout is that the playing field has been seriously leveled. Tins you’re definitely right about waiting to know, but I’m not sure it wont be until week 10..lol

Agreed that playing younger dudes will probably be the route to take, but who knows if that helps or hurts the record this year. Maybe they find a diamond in the rough along the way.
If I’m Bill Polian, I don’t allow Peyton to play late in the season (they say he could maybe be back around Week 13 or so). I’m guessing they just IR him once it’s abundantly clear that there is no shot at the playoffs, record-wise.
