Kenyon Martin Reportedly Signs Richest Contract In Chinese Basketball’s History

By TSSCrew / 09.21.11

Somewhere in Ürümqi, Xinjiang, someone is going crazy about Kenyon Martin. Yes, that’s right. In 2011, Kenyon Martin can still inspire passion in the hearts of basketball fans across the globe. Or, rather, the Xinjiang Flying Tigers are betting he can, because they reportedly signed him to the richest contract in Chinese Basketball Association history today. Sure, it may not be 2000 anymore and K-Mart is nowhere close to the high-flying, rim-rattling player he was in his prime. But, for one shining season, he’s going to be a superstar over in China. Along with scoring machine Quincy Douby and coconut-wielding badass – as well as one-time NBA player – Mengke Bateer, he’ll be the cornerstone of the Flying Tigers’ drive to win a sweet, sweet CBA championship.

But, weirdly enough, Martin’s trip overseas might be more important to the Nuggets than anyone over in China. He’s the fourth Denver player to sign a contract overseas this offseason, after J.R. Smith and Wilson Chandler dipped out to China and Danilo Gallinari returned home to Italy. So, on the off-chance we actually get an NBA season, the Nuggets are set to start Ty Lawson or Andre Miller, Aaron Afflalo, Gary Forbes, Al Harrington and the one, the only, “Birdman” Chris Andersen.

And people thought the NFL lockout did crazy things to teams’ rosters.
