Too often, blogging becomes a narcissitic endeavor where one person pushes their likes on a larger audience. So instead of taking my word for it, check Steve-O’s description of the two of the game’s best talents – Theophilus London and Jesse Boykins III - and the accompanying compilation, Paris96.
“Theophilus London & Jesse Boykins III, together have composed some of the best songs I’ve heard within the past five years. Paris96 is a collection of a few of those gems that I feel the world should become familiar with, if they haven’t done so already.”
Agreed.
“Humdrum Town” should live forever and ever in my humble opinion and both of these guys continually deserve more shine directed their way for their ability to make music that doesn’t fit in a box, but plays so well. Paris69 creates a good starting point if you’ve ever wondered what the fuss is about and where to begin with either artist. There’s a few missing tracks – TL’s “Flying Overseas” and Jesse’s “Prototype” cover, for example – but Paris69 is still a solid collection for the uninitiated.
1. Departure (Paris 96)
2. Cold Pillow
3. The Drug
4. Ooos and Ahhs
5. Humdrum Town
6. She Is Forever feat. MeLo-X
7. No Answer
8. Sorry To Interrupt
9. Enjoy The Sun
10. Life Of A Lover feat. Blu
11. Cold Pillow (Machine Drum Remix)
12. B4 The Night Is Thru
13. I Stand Alone

Hmmm….a little self-admittance Gotty? LOL! Nah, you dudes don’t force-feed anything to us rather you offer encouragement to expand our music palette.
nah i’ve always said that and fully acknowledge it. it’s a weird balance b/c you have to go b/w “I feel strongly about this” and “nobody gives a shit about this apparently.”
With Theo, nobody gave a shit initially but the necc. components were there. in the end, his stock has been continually rising. Then again, I could name off countless artists who I/we/new media have pushed and they just haven’t cracked the bubble yet.
Jesse Boykins III is so talented… and quality young women love dude. Always helps a singer get put into my music rotation.
Hadn’t listened to JBIII before Way of a Wayfarer but that’s one of my most played tapes this year.
^ Yep, it’s mostly just getting people to listen to either of this guys, even though JBIII is a little easier to digest than TL.
i have respect that you break these artists prior to a single hit. i’ve now been listening to TL for a few years, but I wouldn’t have found the dude if it wasn’t for TSS. TSS is major.
Amazing material. I am clueless as to how they were able to fly below my radar, but that’s what TSS is here for. Thanks.
I got hip to Theo when TSS posted I Want You. He has some hit and miss stuff but nestled in there are bonafide bangers. “Hum Drum Town” “Sorry to Interrupt” and “Star Scream” (to name a few) get major spins.
You bloggers have to push honest opinions/likes/dislikes. That is one of the many things that separates TSS from other hip hop sites that post everything that pops into their mailbox. It’s just being genuine.
life of a lover NEVER gets old!
Jesse puts out quality music, his ‘dopeameine’ album/ep is a favourite of mine, and was in heavy rotation for a 6-8 mths and i still go back to it. his wayfarer ep has yet to be digested fully, but so far so good.
‘connected’ is also missing, from his TBC album.
I enjoy their chemistry, two good artists = more good music.
I truly enjoy what you guys @ TSS do here.
You don’t do the ‘copy & paste’ format and I REALLY appreciate that, even if you happen to post the same song as blog ‘c’ the writing on here elevates that.
*annd finish*
Thank you
