Mayer Hawthorne – “A Long Time” Video

By Beware / 08.04.11

While Mayer impressed with the lead single to his Universal debut How Do You Do, the new video for “A Long Time” might even be better. Comprised of vintage VHS clips from a Detroit/Highland Park public access version of Soul Train during the ’80s ingeniously called The New Dance Show, this nostalgic snapshot captures prosperity amongst a city that’s been in turmoil for decades, which is basically the song’s theme. On top of the big picture, however, lies straight hilarity in most of the moves being executed throughout this silk-filled splash of retro excellence.

Also, if you’re looking to incorporate some of these fresh dance licks into your future, check out Hawthorne and Chromeo as they embark on a US tour for the fall. Hopefully, they’ll be incorporating the throwback crooner’s cover of Dave and P’s “When The Night Falls,” which is so different it stands alone in own right.
