sweet, hob gradually grew on me. i realised i haven’t been giving music a chance lately as there’s so much of it. trying to sit with it a while..also his noise ep was alright just sounded a little like generic r&b but a couple of tunes on there nonetheless.

i’m not surprised, he goes about most of his verses kind of like rap verses with a singing tone, which is why I like his music so much.
But after the first listen i’d say I feel HOB more than this project. But this one is still dope, i’ll have to give it a headphones listen on the way to work tomorrow.

It’s completely emo as well as some other stuff. Many of the samples from HOB were from emo bands. Don’t forget that emo isn’t just a term thrown around when someone expresses feelings…it’s actually a legitimate genre.

it’s what you may happen to call a certain type of music, but it is in no way a coherent genre. (Not that I think any genre hold much conceptual weight these days, but that’s a different story)
I doubt any band worth its instruments self-identifies its genre as “emo”

The album that drops later is just called “Silence of Echoes,” it comes out in the fall haha.
But after two spins of Thursday (and a few songs off of HOB for context), and it’s a cut above his previous effort IMO. The moodiness, the minimalism, and crunchy hard-hitting undertones that made HOB dope are back, but he’s stretching them out into landscapes now. It’s on a much larger scale.
His transitions are better-polished as well in the middle of and in between songs – they’re more seamless. And the sound of it all…it’s like if Kanye, Placebo, and Justin Timberlake ran train on Sade while Trent Reznor filmed…it’s just beautiful, haha. Just cut out all that damn whining in “Gone” and you have a VERY strong effort.
Thought the first tape was a bit of a yawner, not sure if I should dl this one. I did like his Trust Issue Remix but still unsure.
He’s done it again, another quality effort. He’s gonna blow sooner rather than later.
“The Zone” with Drake is tough.
So is “Heaven Or Vegas.”

The Weeknd is skilled. Period. If you do not prefer it, that’s understandable, but to diss b/c it’s not your “style” is, well, childish. He’s nice. And the fact that he uses the reverb and all that in a distinct manner IMHO differentiates his sound from the T-painish type tuning. Hate it or love it, The Weeknd’s sound is unique and refreshingly indulgent. And you can’t offer up a fair evaluation while listening on a pair of $9.99 Gum earphones either. Put it on some real speakers and you’ll understand the feeling that this music invokes. Aight, I’m done. LOL
