Lil Wayne plans to use a similar strategy as his industry counterparts Jay-Z and Kanye by releasing Tha Carter IV to iTunes, Amazon.com and other digital outlets at midnight on Sunday, immediately following MTV’s VMAs and his performance for the award show. In doing so, Weezy becomes the first artist to release an entire album digitally after the awards. In a prepared statement given to MTV, Wayne declares “I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea. I hope that I can open the door for others.”
While the digital move gives online sites a leg up, the physical album’s still slated to hit stores on August 29.

Lil Wayne plans to use a similar strategy as his industry counterparts Jay-Z and Kanye by releasing Tha Carter IV to iTunes, Amazon.com and other digital outlets at midnight on Sunday…
Wayne declares, “I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea. I hope that I can open the door for others.”
Okay…those two sentences seem to contradict…
Yup, Wayne’s back on the syrup.
lmao, hey i didn’t make Wayne’s statement or the PR. But yeah…I think someone’s a little delusional here and feel pretty safe in saying it isn’t us.
What i took it all to mean is he’s the first to do it after the VMAs.
ahh hell now cats gonna be dropping records after the softball world series, game 4 of the nba playoffs western conference semi finals, Bronner brother hair show final day, right after the series finale of Im 16 and pregnant. Thanks Kings.
@The Human Spider – “In doing so, Weezy becomes the first artist to release an entire album digitally after the awards. In a prepared statement given to MTV, Wayne declares “I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea. I hope that I can open the door for others.””
“First to release an entire album digitally after the awards” – Reading comprehension.
Bronner brother hair show final day,
=======
Lmfao…no but seriously, I’m totally looking forward to Kim’s album
right after the series finale of Im 16 and pregnant.

fuckin dead.
I will be very interested to see if this plan works, but there’s still no way he’s doing C3 numbers.
He’s probably got a MONSTER performance planned at the VMA’s then while everyone is still buzzing over it & hype & ish, he puts the Carter IV out like 15 minutes later so people will rush to get it. Or at least that’s how I picture it.
Am I the only one who saw thiz comein’… ???
The title of this article is slightly misleading…
Wayne isn’t doing the same thing Jay and ‘Ye did. They gave the exclusive in order to combat the leaks, and as a result, digital was available beginning when physical product shipped to accounts (5 day window).
Wayne is going live at Midnight post-VMAs, but the album is actually available on Monday, August 29th anyway.
Technically, you can buy any album at iTunes before you buy it at physical retail because the store refreshes overnight, whereas most physical accounts don’t open until 9-11am beginning their business day.
@scourge – right.
MTV is promoting the hell out of Wayne as they’ll be the only TV to get any kind of Lil Wayne performance on streetweek (he’s touring the rest of the week). Wayne wanted to capitalize on the appearance and use the fact that he’s putting out the album at midnight as leverage for MTV to further push Tha Carter IV.
Did I imagine the title was something along the lines of “…like Jay Z & ‘Ye”?
LOL

I’m a fuckin walkin paradox *Tyler voice*
I know the album kind of flopped, but Wayne did this with ” I Am Not A Human Being”…
