What would you do if you had one day left? Me, personally, I’d round up my loved ones and belt out my favorite tunes, wherever they let me play ‘em the loudest. It might be a tad awkward at times, with my mom hearing songs like “Ain’t No Fun” and of course, me dying and all, but I’d make sure it was a killer party.

If you’re curious what J The S might do, check out this Court-Dunn-directed video for “One Day Left,” from his recent release The Sky Is Falling. Beside the likes of Jon Hope and singer Franco Anthony, this former Boston school-teacher and his cohorts spell out the hypothetical details of how, why and what their last moments might consist of. While the visual is NSFW and somewhat overdone in my opinion, the shock value definitely gives the song a darker approach.

One of my favorite things about Hip-Hop has always been stumbling upon samples and references. Whether it’s hearing a now-commonly used phrase or melody on a 1980s rap record (think pretty much every line on Paid in Full) or catching a sample that I didn’t even realize was there (I definitely wasn’t thinking about Shawty Lo when I put on Mandrill’s “Children of the Sun”), Hip-Hop’s constant nods towards the past create infinite opportunities for spontaneous discovery for a music lover.
