Usually our crack sports team handles game previews and recaps but I imagine that Tins is somewhere in a dark room questioning life’s meaning and the rest of them don’t fire up their keyboards until a little later. So, dear reader, that leaves you and me to dissect what we witnessed last night as the Mavericks ascended to the top of the NBA mountaintop, defeating the Miami Heat 105-95 in Game 6.
No objectivity or in depth analysis either. Just a handful of eight random thoughts to cap off the season. It’s all we have from now until football season begins…hopefully.
1. How odd is it that Miami’s loss and Mark Cuban’s antics are larger stories than the Mavericks actually winning? — In case you missed it, Cuban cursed on air, rented out the uber-expensive Club Liv in Miami, pre-ordered a reported 250 bottles of bubbly as well as Lil Jon-styled goblets for the team to drink from and partied it up. Then, he went home in the wee hours of the morning…to sleep with the championship trophy. Sounds like something we would all do, right?
Yeah, except none of us are team owners who should show a level of decorum. Without a doubt, I would probably be more than happy that Dallas won if Cuban wasn’t associated with the team. Grade-A, spoiled asshole. Stay classy, Mark.
Sidebar: I’m not shocked that Birdman and Weezy were partying with the Mavs. Weezy previously said the Heat didn’t revere him enough or did we forget that? As someone on Twitter said, they’re “bandwagon Bloods” and known shiesters. We’ve forewarned you, Carter IV producers, beware of lack of payments for sure now that Birdman lost his big bet.
2. Dan Gilbert sounds more and more like an old bitter bitch — While Cuban stayed quiet until the series was over, Gilbert waved his blue and white pom-poms throughout like he had money on the games and was elated last night. After the game, he gave the Mavs a quick handjob and took more slick shots at LeBron. Dan, your franchise is still in shambles. Redirect your attention to your investment.
3. Speaking of foot in mouth-in-mouth syndrome — LBJ’s postgame press conference may have been accurate and, quite frankly, honest. We do live pretty shitty lives filled “with personal problems” on a daily basis and immerse ourselves in sport. Yet, LeBron could have easily taken all of his riches and personal joys to ride the high road instead of directing a low blow at fans and detractors. Maybe it’s an Ohio thing.
I like the guy, but Bron Bron still has a bit of maturing to do and, at the young old age of 26, he hasn’t turned that corner yet. Kobe had to do it. MJ had to learn to make his teammates better instead of berating them. LeBron, talk less, learn more.
4. Chris Bosh cried and that’s okay — After an emotionally and mentally draining series and season, odds are the forward was anguished. As kids, we all may have cried on the field or court after a defeat. It happens. If you haven’t cried at least once after losing, it’s probably because you rode the bench and were ready to turn your jersey as soon as the buzzer sounded.
That said, as a grown ass man, I don’t foresee myself crying in public unless one of my immediate family croaks or suffers a life-altering injury. Any lesser circumstances and witnesses to my tear-shedding must be killed immediately afterward. Buddy cried like he caught the Holy Ghost or a sniper picked off his cherished dog. A few tears, maybe. All out emotional, weak-kneed crying? No sir.
5. Could Dirk be any more of an unassuming MVP? — Did anyone else notice him sprint off the court immediately following the buzzer, much like he did in the Western Conference Finals as well. Before the season, I remember watching (or maybe reading) and interview with the self-proclaimed “Tall Baller from the G” where he shared that the scandal with that weird broad really opened his eyes to how harsh the media and the world-at-large can be. Once fun-loving and carefree, he basically spoke on how it shifted his focus and his game showcased such. Throughout the series, I can’t recall ever thinking “Oh, Dirk’s soft” or “He’s shying away from big shots again” as I surmised when watching him in previous years. Hate the Mavs. Love the Heat. Do whatever, but let’s give Dirk the credit due for playing lights out ball all postseason.
6. Does anyone else see shades of Chuck Person in DeShawn Stevenson? No, by no means can the guy shoot like “The Rifleman” but he’s one irritating sonofabitch…who made several big shots and popped big shit along the way.
Yeah, I could’ve said Reggie Miller but Reggie was all yap. Between his former Pacer teammate Chuck and the Mavs’ DeShawn, there exists a threat of real violence seething underneath their jerseys. I fully expected Stevenson to pull a straight razor out of his waistband and slice Chalmers last night.
7. Criticize the players as much as you like but Erik Spoelstra needs to shoulder the load — His team’s continuous fourth quarter collapses were inexcusable. No, he didn’t take any shots but he didn’t mentally prepare his squad or appear to have given them the game plan to thwart Dallas’ late-game onslaughts throughout the series. We won’t even get into how the Mavs zone made the Heat look like the Cavs.
8. Let’s cap this off by talking the Heat — They’re the bigger story, remember? I have to give David D. full credit for this next bit of wisdom.
“Heat = Mike Tyson. they look so dominant when they overmatch their opponents. Pure power and skill will get you so far…but when faced with someone with mechanics, all of that shit goes out the window. Spoelstra not being able to figure out how to get his team to work together down the stretch is like Tyson’s corner using ice in a plastic glove to ice Mike’s eye.”
Miami will win, once they get a few more pieces in place. Don’t think for a minute that three guys can beat five. Pat Riley, might I suggest seeking out a point guard. JJ Barea made Bibby look as old as he actually is and he had Eddie House backpedaling an awful goddamn lot too.
Now, go ahead and watch the NBA’s Top 5 plays from Sunday and then bicker in the comments.

Yet, LeBron could have easily taken all of his riches and personal joys to ride the high road instead of directing a low blow at fans and detractors. Maybe it’s an Ohio thing

7. Criticize the players as much as you like but Erik Spoelstra needs to shoulder the load

I don’t know… I agree, they were not mentally prepared but as I often hear players say in NFL playoff games say, “If you need anymore motivation being here, you probably shouldn’t [be here].” I think team as a whole needs maturing. The poise and mental toughness of the 2 teams were like night/day. I think that’s because Dallas had so many players that have been close for over a decade and never gotten over the hump. This will inevitably do the same for the Heat moving forward.
Motivation and preparation. You can say “Oh, but they’re so talented” but the NBA is full of talented players. Hell, they’re all professionals. Remember, Jordan was obviously talented, but it wasn’t until his talents were matched w/Phil Jackson’s coaching acumen that he was able to win rings.
Life lesson kids: DO NOT celebrate until you’ve won, and if your ego just can’t contain itself and you must celebrate before winning anything, DO NOT (and I mean DO NOT) celebrate before you even begin doing what you’re supposed to do.
As the Heat just learned, it’s a lot harder to swallow your pride after you start pounding your chest and making stupid faces (Bosh) months before the season even starts. There’s no crying in sports.
Still lmao @ bosh falling to his hands and knees. Will the kobe/lebron comparisons cease to exist now?
Ha Ha! (Nelson Mandela Muntz Voice)
but it wasn’t until his talents were matched w/Phil Jackson’s coaching acumen that he was able to win rings.
—–
True but should it take Phil Jackson or that caliber of coach to make the Heatles play the series like, you know, it’s the Finals? They had this “We’ll get em next game” passiveness about them down the stretch. Does Spo’ take a piece of the blame pie? Sure. But even if Spo got ejected in the 1st qtr of each game, you as the professional know what’s on the line and what’s at stake. You shouldn’t “need” a motivational speech to at least show up in a series.
You shouldn’t “need” a motivational speech to at least show up in a series.
==========
I read you but you’re still missing the point about actual coaching and strategy. I can have the strength and talent to do many things. But if someone’s not there instructing and showing me how to accomplish my goal, I’m going to struggle at succeeding.
Man I thought this day never come, but damn it was sweet. Its nothing better than seeing the opponent lay the f”k down. The best part was that it was full circle. Seeing JET coming up in the clutch. Awesome to see Dirk so damn emotional that he had to leave the court. Great to finally see him get his due. My take on Lebron is he was hurt. You don’t work as hard as that man does and not care. Also if you see the picture as the game was about end, he was misty eyed. That why Lebron leaves the court. All I can say is its great to see your fave team win….now back to reality.
How ’bout this for the elephant not mentioned in last night’s national breakdowns of the game:
The Heat took 33 free throws. Missed 13. Lost by 10. Until the very end of the game, Miami had missed more free throws than the Mavs had taken.
The officiating was horrible, and decidedly in the Heat’s favor. And they choked at the line.
Note to Spoelstra: Dallas can’t “outplay” or “out-experience” your team when the ball is in your hand at the charity stripe.
Regardless of Dallas’ team effort, a major breakdown in the game had nothing to do with Dallas: the Heat were gifted a game of HORSE by the refs…and stared it straight in the mouth.
All Lebron really wants to say is “I want all you fans, and Skip Bayless, to GET OFF MY FUCKING DICK!” Haha.
Next year maybe.
It’s just a game.
Bosh falling to the ground crying like an old lady in the 2nd church service was salt in the wound. He needs to stop ordering the off brand beer without taste and switch to Miller.
I guess there’s no question now who Spo was talking about in those “crying in the locker room” days.
though i did not want the heat to win. I think credit should be given when its due this season was a huge revamp for the heat and they made it all the way to the finals come on that’s not amazing? If this we were talking about Nicks or bulls loosing in the finals everyone would have been
“one or two more years and we will win. This year was a good start, a good show of talent.”
let not forget that this team still has to gel and find there footing as a unit. i don’t think that down the stretch this could be a dynasty team on par with the lakers and the bulls.
I also think your being a little judgmental about the whole cris bosh crying thing. Have you ever been in a high pressure situation where millions of people are watching and waiting on the outcome? Some wanting you to fail and some wanting you to succeed? because i havent and it looks like its a tough situation to be in. chris worked hard to get where he is and regardless of how good/valuable a player people think he is he did have an impact in game 5 but in a losing effort. How would it feel to put years of work into something but ultimately fall short in the end?
also
“Dan, your franchise is still in shambles. Redirect your attention to your investment.” LMFAO
Talent got them that far. Coaching should have put them over the top. Carlyle is a good, but not great coach. But compared to Spoelstra, he’s Phil Jackson.
There’s no way that team should have lost. Hell Flip Saunders could have won with that squad.
PAGING PAT RILEY. MR. RILEY YOU’RE NEEDED DOWNSTAIRS.
but it wasn’t until his talents were matched w/Phil Jackson’s coaching acumen that he was able to win rings.

Pretty much.
This ain’t nothing new. I’ve been here before lol.

that’s obvious. it’s still in poor taste IMO but that’s pretty much my WHOLE opinion of Cuban lol.
but you’re still missing the point about actual coaching and strategy.
——–
Maybe I took your initial words as saying the loss of the series in Spo’s fault vs the players. I think that he does share some blame but even you said that the Heat looked like the Cavs. And they did. But I know from seeing beating every team in 5 games in every series leading up to this and the domination from the 1st 7 qtrs of this series, that Spo didn’t draw game plan up like they executed. They seemed to vary away from what made them successful getting them here (e.g. rebounds, attacking the basket, hitting free throws)
How would it feel to put years of work into something but ultimately fall short in the end?
—–
But dude is the ONLY ONE! And this fool is ALWAYS crying. I’ve seen dudes tear up about losing but when you can make it to the locker room before hitting the floor in tears… yeah… that right there…
when you can’t*
The heat won’t get anywhere until they close out games consistently when it matters. Also they’re bench is still suspect so that’s another problem. I didn’t like either team but the better squad won. I’m just glad Jason Kidd finally has a ring as a Nets fan. He gave his best years putting NJ on his back so it’s good to see him get a chip.
Did anyone put an Amber Alert out for Tinsley yet?
This ain’t nothing new. I’ve been here before lol.
—
“Nobody knows… the trouble I’ve seen. Nobody knows my sorrows”
Hey, but I tip my hat to Willie P. The Mavs simply looked like the better team after that comeback in Game 2. Hopefully Dirk gets the credit he deserves now and Terry, with a ring, will go down as one of the better 6th men this league has ever seen (note I didn’t say BEST). Cuban is loving life right now. But you know who I’m most envious of? J.J. Barea. He is a god in Puerto Rico now.
Let that marinate. A god in PUERTO RICO!!
And I ain’t going nowhere lol. I’m still gonna be here. And I’m still going to slide a Paid In Full quote in a post whenever I can. I know the drill though. It’s all LeBron’s fault.
Even though his antics can get old, when Mark Cuban made it rich he made everyone in his business millionaires too even the cleaning ladies. Say what you want he knows how to treat his people. For that I think he deserved it.
Let that marinate. A god in PUERTO RICO!!
——-
“No no mamu just call me Juan.”
I know the drill though. It’s all LeBron’s fault.
——
When I think of LeBron stans I immediately think of you and Chris Broussard. He came out today and said that LeBron’s passiveness effected the whole team dynamic. The surrounding guys had to try to adjust their game on the fly almost. What’s your take Tins. You’ve been biting your tongue for too long.
My fault sir Tinsley commented before I sent out the search team.
What’s your take Tins. You’ve been biting your tongue for too long.
=================
Bro. Cell, I’m glad you’ve asked me that. I may answer more in-depth in a post, I haven’t decided yet, but here’s my brief (as I can make it) response. First and foremost, I’ll put a lot of this on LeBron’s shoulders mainly because trying not to do so would be stupid. He’s this superhero figure when things go right. Treat him the same way when they don’t. Physically speaking, aside from missing a post game (which I pray magically appears this summer), he’s got it. It’s the mental edge about him that always baffles me.
He is the most enigmatic superstar ever. He can drop 50 points one game and then come back and score 15 and NEITHER would surprise me. As far as this series goes, his biggest strength was his biggest weakness. He can get teammates involved, but in the Finals, he did it too much. He passed up open shots or open lanes which didn’t exactly come often. And Broussard was right, he was so passive that no one really knew how to react to that. I sat and watched the series thinking “any moment now he’s going to explode.” And it never happened lol. I understand he was dog tired, but it what it is at this point. Maybe he needs to take the Jimmer Fredette approach and go run scrimmages in prison all summer or something.
But Sam said something to me the other day that really proved true, this series was Miami reverting back to their old problems. They hid them so well in the Boston and Chicago series. They were actually flashes of what Miami really could be. But when you’re learning to walk, you’re going to take three or four steps forward and then fall on your ass. Dallas just outplayed, outhustled and just wanted it more.
So many missed opportunities, the x amount of times they would drive and pass the ball four different times forcing a shot cause the clock was going down was ridiculous. The last 9 minutes were pretty brutal to watch. Congrats to the Mavs though they earned it, maybe not Corey Brewer or Peja were were chillin without a sweat drop on em.
I’m probably the only won that was happy that Mavs won and not bitter and throwing jabs because the Heat lost. The Heat played their heart out.
@Tins
Good Evaluation.
While Bron’s speech after the game was about as classy as a BYOB Strip Joint I feel bad for him. The Heat got out played every game after game 2. Mavs wanted it more and played harder. Congrats to those guys.
I feel bad for the people responsible for cleaning the Larry O’Brien Trophy after a Mark Cuban party…
While Bron’s speech after the game was about as classy as a BYOB Strip Joint I feel bad for him.
================================
Lol, I know I’m tripping because I’m the only person in America that didn’t think it was THAT bad. He had been waiting to say that shit since last summer probably.
7. Criticize the players as much as you like but Erik Spoelstra needs to shoulder the load
============================
This was huge. No small ball, too much bibby, didnt pull chalmers when he was all over the place, bosh on dirk… the list goes on.
This is year one folks. It took Jordan and Pippen three to win one. The Heat made it in their first year. They got valuable experience in their first finals together. In the beginning of the year a lot of folks were saying this team could never work together. Now those same people want to say the season was a failure. The Heat are a good coach and a few shooters away from winning it all.
Meanwhile the more impressive story is the Mavs. Jason Terry just went 2k11 all over Miami the last two games. Its good to see Dirk get his ring. But Carlisle coached cirlces around Spoelstra.
One final point.. People are happy LeBron lost, genuinely happy because hes a) a douche, b) full of himself for the decision, and c) he celebrated with his teammates prematurely. Yet folks are genuinely happy J Kidd won one even though he was a habitual wife beater. Just seems wrong to me.
I love TSS … You guys made my morning lol.
May I say as a resident of Los Angeles county: at least we were swept by the best. Salve in the wound, man.
oh and the Heat season in all over the news yet nobody wants to talk about the Lakers COMPLETE failure.
Lol, I know I’m tripping because I’m the only person in America that didn’t think it was THAT bad
========================================
I hear you. I was almost happy for him for saying that. Get rid of that facade LeBron. Tell the haters how you really feel.
It’s the mental edge about him that always baffles me.
——-
I give Dallas a great deal of credit for slaying the 3 headed monster and I picked them to win the series for the exact reasons that they won but it was just weird watching LeBron play at times. I’d watch the NBAtv’s replays and even though Dallas clogged the lanes on Miami a lot, LeBron had some good picks set by Bosh the he didn’t even try to take advantage of. I mean you’re the best driver in basketball (thinks about it… yea) that should be your bread and butter.
But the one thing that irks me is that even before the buzzer rang, Mark Jackson was talking about the Heat trading away everybody that’s not superstars and hear people wanting Spo’s job but people fail to realize that the Chip should be a grind. They may need to put a person here on there on their bench and make a solid choice of who’s gonna be starters for this team and roll with that. You shouldn’t cover up this teams issues by just grabbing better “talent”. Let players actually marinate in your system. Let them develop team chemistry. Let Spo grow from his mistakes. Look how much Joel Anthony stepped up in just mere months. If you build a solid bench, they’ll be fine. Like you said, the problem is pretty much all mental. But since my team resides in the East, I hope they never figure that part out lol.
Lol, I know I’m tripping because I’m the only person in America that didn’t think it was THAT bad. He had been waiting to say that shit since last summer probably.
—————————————————————-
I heard it was like damn ok Tell’em why you mad son. Didn’t make me dislike him more. Actually I’m turning in my Lebron Haters club card.
oh and the Heat season in all over the news yet nobody wants to talk about the Lakers COMPLETE failure
———————————————————–
I’ve heard PLENTY about the Lakers failing this year. People don’t even talk to me for years but as soon as The Lakers lose here they come.
oh and the Heat season in all over the news yet nobody wants to talk about the Lakers COMPLETE failure.

You tend to keep forgetting that the Heat are the most famous team pretty much in all of sports. And LeBron is the biggest athlete as well. A year ago when the Celtics and Lakers were playing in the Finals, ESPN ran constant LeBron free agency stories. A year prior when the Lakers played the Magic in the Finals, ESPN ran LeBron free agency stories. No has every garnered as much attention as this man Everything with those guys = big news. So it shouldn’t shock you that the Lakers who haven’t played basketball in a month come 3rd in 4th in NBA topics right now behind the Heat losing, Mavs winning, and the CBA.
People don’t even talk to me for years but as soon as The Lakers lose here they come.
——-
Change “Lakers” to the “Celtics” and we are in the exact same boat.
I mean the Lakers have been out of the postseason for a minute now. We did run like an eight slide post on them though lol.
@tins and karlito
ESPN didnt say much. Especially in Washington DC. Which oddly enough is more anti-LeBron that Cleveland. Old friends and current friends will always say something to you.
@cell
i cant help but to remember that they are the most famous team. ESPN wont let it go. Like I said before, the Mavs winning are a lesser story to the Heat losing which is a lesser story to LeBron losing. Its crazy. If the media types were to talk about Spoelstra getting out coached and Wade dissapearing in game 6 as much as they were to talk about LeBron’s twitter account and his post game interviews there may be a different slant to the series. Of course the only basketball related topic being discussed relates to… LeBron James.
ESPN is the Fox News of sports.
Yet folks are genuinely happy J Kidd won one even though he was a habitual wife beater. Just seems wrong to me.

Lol, yea I was telling somebody last night the reason he maintained his emotions so well is because he releases them at home.
ESPN is the Fox News of sports.

haha. They are the ONLY news of sports. But it’s even bigger than that. LeBron topped the list earlier this month as a the biggest high school pick ever. He was crowned the Chosen One before they ever sized him for a Cavs jersey. It all seems bad but if he were winning they would be throwing just as much attention in the his direction. People forgot about Kobe and just went just to Jordan as LeBrons equal. He will always get unfair treatment one way or another.
Don’t worry Cell, OUR CELTICS SHALL RISE AGAIN!!! Serious question: With all of the youth currently in the league and about to enter the league, do veteran teams like Dallas even have a chance next season (if there is one…)? Look at the stats: Most of the veteran teams got bounced out of the Playoffs rather quickly and young squads flourished. I’m putting my bets on OKC to make it to the Finals next year.

I’ve been saying it throughout the playoffs, teams like ours are a dying breed. The Lakers, Mavs, Spurs and Celtics time are coming to a end. That was why I was rooting for the Mavs. With teams like Okc, Bulls, Heat, Knicks, Pacers, 6ers, Clppers and Grizzlies trending upward it’s gonna be tough for us to get it in. But the Celtics will have a lot of cap room after this upcoming season and we will still have Doc and Rondo so who knows what we’ll look like in a minute.
But I still have hope brova, I still have hope.
So was that rumor true or not cause it seems as tho lebron was disintrested the last four games just going thru the motions.

NBA Finals Game 6 Recap: The Heat Lose, Mark Cuban Wins!
—————————————————
Usually i’d have a problem with this title, but i’m chillin for now…lol.
Lets start with the obvious: Chris Bosh is a bitch, and probably won’t be allowed back home for awhile. Now that we’ve gotten that out the way lets talk about Baby Bron-Bron. I know that you’re sposed to stay even keeled on the court, but am I the only one who thinks he just doesn’t give a single fuck? He didn’t even try last night. I mean, I knew he wouldn’t. but damn at least make an effort. D-Wade wasn’t even too engaged in this one, its like they laid down earlier than I saw. But when they were playin catch with 2 minutes to go the AAC went crazy. We knew it was ours.
As for my boys partying in a Miami club with the Larry O’Brien trophy while buying 250 bottles of Ace of Spades and MVP Swish41 Dirk ordering a bottle thats bigger that J.J. Barea(who is about to get sooooooooo many Puerto Rican chicks, even tho he has Miss Universe), its a beautiful sight. The gold blends in so well with the Blue, black and white. We tried to tell you in the beginning of the playoffs when yall aggins were pickin the Mavs to lose to the Blazers that we were the most complete team in the playoffs, but nobody listened. I ain’t trippin tho. Pandas told me at one point that all the stories would be about Miami, and this post proves that to be correct. But i’m cool with it, as long as you know who got that hardware.
—
It’s more about rooting for the player than the person behind the scenes. NorBel’s not a likeable player just like you said. Jason Kidd’s private life is marred but he’s a respected point guard even though he’s well past his prime. All these players either may or do live lurid lives off the court but, from what I surmise, people don’t focus on your transgressions if you can play or played well: especially if you got caught years ago like Kidd. For instance, Magic Johnson cheated on his wife repeatedly and caught HIV. Dude still has fans far and wide. Heads also still rooted for Tiger Woods at The Masters even though his extramarital affairs were well documented.
Seeing this happen is part of the reason why I don’t like how the NBA and the media parade players as role models when many are just about getting checks to play ball. They still have to be accountable for their actions and do right by their loved ones. But holding them as bastions for everyone’s moral compass is wrong. On the other hand I don’t see a problem with admiring how a player plays ball or paying respect for them finally getting a chip after years of coming up short.

Hey man, I said earlier, when I am proven wrong Ill admit it. I was wrong. Congrats on the chip.
@ S Cadet
well said. We are gonna miss you in the booth buddy. You went all out at the end of the game last night.
I think Vince McMahon owns the NBA. That shit was/is rigged. I was recently caught up in the middle of a confidence scam. I can see a grift from a mile away. The Heat lost to themselves.
damn cell be killin the comments section.
i gotta question for duke…you got a blog or site of your own?
gotti why dont you give cell some space on this blog man? he be holdin shit down.
