In a little under four minutes, Schoolboy manages to spew a heavy amount of raunchy rhymes in total antithesis of what his name would imply. In many ways, the TDE crew reminds me of a new age version of the Geto Boys; their strength found within the fact they can string together endless, detailed taunts in a way that’s highly listenable.
Musical sonnets revolving around “sex, money, murder with your b*tch, makin’ f*ck flicks…” are by no means new in rap, but it’s Q’s voice, sounding like Satan’s spawn, that makes the music so grisly and violent conjuring thoughts of classic G.B. tracks like “Mind Of A Lunatic” and “Mind’s Playing Tricks.” Comparing the two crews, Kendrick’s obviously Scarface with the shared ability to reflect but I’m stuck deciding whether Q comes closer to Bushwick or Willie Dee due to his knack for bizarre, brazen bars meant to induce shock and smirks.
