When A-Trak dropped the original “Ray Ban Vision” last fall, I played it maybe twice and kept moving. Despite a peaking Prynce and the Fools Gold founder’s glitched-out club-cranker, the song just didn’t click for a non-shade-rocking individual like myself. The well-timed remix, however, has me shuffling to find an iPod chord for the immediate update. Instead of creating catchy repetition with just CyHi, Trak has conjured up diversified styles and casual competition amongst a group of freshly-inked MCs showing to prove. Perfectly sequenced, this reasonably random posse cut serves as proof that superstar power isn’t necessary for a song to carry weight and also a legit exclamation of Fool’s Gold roster of rappers – as both Danny Brown and Donnis are signed to the label.
While the fans are the real winners here, this Brother Macklovitch may end up looking like a genius when his label is completely formed a few years down the line. Diversity at its finest.
