When Othyus Jeffers Met LeBron James’ Kneecap

By J. Tinsley / 03.31.11

By my calculations, I have only had two and a half posts (not counting the Sunday basketball recaps) about LeBron in a positive light since the season tipped off last October. The half was when Amar’e dunked on LBJ, but I countered by posting a clip when LeBron dunked on Amar’e. So if this particular post comes off bias, shoot me, it is. Let me cook.

The playoffs are upon us, but the intensity which defines the postseason reared its head when John Wall took a fist to Zydrunas Ilgauskas’ rib cage last night; this later led to three ejections. To the Wizard’s credit, they kept the game close early into the fourth quarter until the Heat went on a run putting the game out of reach. But that’s not why we’re here. Mourning Othyus Jeffers is the real reason why these words are being constructed. You see, he did exactly what he was supposed to do when outnumbered on a fast break. Cut the man with the ball off and force him to give it up. Unfortunately for him, when he turned around, LeBron’s knee was in his chest and by that time destiny had already taken his course.

And then D-Wade came over to give him the “hell-yeah-this-big-three-thing-ain’t-half-bad-when-we-actually-get-it-to-work” co-sign.

For those wondering, there was no mysterious case of bubble guts prior to the pre-game introductions like there was in Cleveland the night before. That was weird, right? Anyway, Jeffers need not to hold his head in shame. This isn’t the first time James caught an unsuspecting guard with a kneecap to the chest cavity. Just ask Deltone West.

(*waits for the jokes*)

P.S. – I was a special guest on The Unsportsmanlike Conduct Show last night. This may not be a big deal to anyone else, but I had a great time taking part in talking college hoops and the NBA. I like to believe I kept my standom at an even keel, but that’s just me. Much respect to Ed and Kenny for the opportunity.
