This is not an optical illusion folks.
UNC alum Tyler Hansbrough went from being a top college player to yesterday’s news as soon as he donned a Pacers uni. Things didn’t look well for Larry Bird’s golden boy with his underwhelming play throughout his rookie and much of his sophomore year. Pundits and fans alike, including myself, swore he couldn’t make the pro transition and end up as a mid-level player at very best. Nevertheless, Psycho T’s been on a bit of a hot streak all March and dropped back to back career highs in points on the Knicks. Has Tyler finally arrived in Indiana’s system or is this a case of good ‘ol fashioned overachieving? Indiana would obviously like to believe the former as they hold on to 8th place with a 29-38 record, and a half game lead, over Charlotte.
The following vid is easily the best play of Tyler Hansbrough’s pro career. Bear witness as Tyler pushed Amar’e's glasses in all while he slammed home two of his 30 points. I like how Stoudemire’s body language basically said “I don’t know what yall lookin at” when he inbounded the ball with the whole team gawking at him. Then they appeared all kinds of dumbfounded as Indiana went on a run.
Indiana added insult to injury by beating NY 119-117 off the following game winning J by Danny Granger. Closing out for the W is all well and good, but with that in mind, let’s convince ourselves that Hansbrough’s one shining moment was the difference in Indiana’s two point victory – capping back to back wins on NY.

Pacers have been hot. Hopefully in 24hrs there will not be a “Tyler dunks on (enter Boston vic)” seeing how we play them tonight. The C’s play better D than anything D’Antoni coaches so we at least have and edge that the Knicks don’t have. But Tyler has been a beast over the last week so who knows what to expect.
6 seed here we come. Thanks for that trade New York.
this guy has been killin these past couple of games… if hes an option in your fantasy league… coppppp
Those Lugz to the right are making me nauseous
This guy loves playing March.

We can only hope so, Cell. We can only hope so.
He didn’t dunk on Amare…He dunked aggressively close to Amare
I think we need to set some criteria for what constitutes getting dunked on..
Criteria #1: Must be body to body contact (pause)
Criteria #2: If Defender jumps, he must FULLY commit to jumping with Dunker
Criteria #3: Taking the “charge” does not exempt your ass from posterization- see Tom from Boondocks for visual reference http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9uPLAFSwDg
I’m running out of criteria, but I feel like I got my point across..Tyler did put up some good numbers and has been beastin’ so good for him..but based on my criteria he didn’t dunk on Amare.

While I agree that Amare didnt get dunked “on” per se. My criteria for getting dunked on, is as follows:
Rule 1) If a close up picture is taken at said time of dunk, and you are in the picture doing one of a few things (looking up at, jumping with, under the basket of, arm or hand in your face of, or nuts in your face of the dunker), then you sir, have been dunked on. A picture speaks a thousand words, and while it doesnt always tell the whole truth, its hard to argue against a thousand words.
Criteria #2: If Defender jumps, he must FULLY commit to jumping with Dunker
——
Nah son, that won’t save you. If you are standing in between the guy who is dunking and the rim, you just got yoked on. Standing off to the side I say you criteria #2 applies. Remember, Vince Carter dunk on that 7 foot dude and he wasn’t jumping and that was the best in-game duck of all time.
I saw this question posed on a blog and I want to ask it here.
“Kobe’s ankle injury brings up this question: Which contending team could BEST weather the loss of its leading scorer?”
I say the Celtics but I know I may be a smidge biased.
LOL @ the criteria discussion
REAL XL has some good points. “Dunked on” is one of the most abused phrases in basketball.
“Dunked on” means “you tried to stop me, did everything you could and i still wrecked a rim on you.”
If the defender isn’t trying stop you by going for the block or taking the charge you’re not really dunking on them.
In this case, Amare did get dunked on cuz he was going for it. It was crappy defense which Amare is known for, more oft than not, but, ok, he dunked on him. Kinda.
Which contending team could BEST weather the loss of its leading scorer?”
===========================================
Philly cuz we dont have one. bam… oh you said contender… right…
I’d say Miami could be one, cuz whoever isnt hurt could just step up and Mike Miller could get some more meaningful minutes… but I only see one team losing their leading scorer and winning it all…
San Antonio.
“you tried to stop me, did everything you could and i still wrecked a rim on you.”
———
To me that just makes it worse. It may have less “pow” if they aren’t going all out to stop you but if I’m in air ball in hand, and I put the ball in the rim and at that moment, time is stopped and I can look down and you are UNDER me instead of moving out of my way, you’ve just been dunked ON.
I’d say Miami could be one

They still wouldn’t have any bench.
Philly cuz we dont have one. bam… oh you said contender… right…

Cell, as I was formulating my criteria I consulted with some of the greatest “dunked on” footage found on YouTube. The VC 2000 Olympic games dunk factored in greatly to Criteria #1 (hand and shorts both came in contact with French Defender). However, i don’t know how you can make the argument against Criteria #2 using this example, seeing that it already meets the Criteria #1 threshold and the French man was in picture perfect defensive position (Criteria #3 threshold).
I’m arguing that Amare didn’t fully commit to jumping (see video) which translates to poort effort/poor defensive position (you choose). As a result he gave up an aggressive dunk in the paint, which was too close for comfort. Factor in race, player status, and a home court crowd and the allusion that Amare was dunked on is created. Again, Amare didn’t fully commit to jumping with Tyler, there was no contact before or during take off, and he was in piss poor defensive position to take the charge. None of the criteria for getting dunked on were met. My Verdict: Not Dunked On due to insufficient evidence…
I do think that TSS should definitely consider creating some dunked on criteria, because as my man Black Canseco noted:
“Dunked on” is one of the most abused phrases in basketball.
“Kobe’s ankle injury brings up this question: Which contending team could BEST weather the loss of its leading scorer?”

Cell, once again I hate to agree with you on this but yea…Celtics
They epitomize team basketball.
“illusion” that Amare was dunked on…my bad
i don’t know how you can make the argument against Criteria #2 using this example, seeing that it already meets the Criteria #1 threshold
——-
Ohh I thought you were saying that they had to meet ALL 3 criteria to be considered dunked on. In that case I guess I will have to agree that they are fair.
@ The Real XL
See here’s the thing. You may be right that in an idealized “dunked on” the defender is committing before getting the ball thrown in his face. However such criteria can lead to an even more pathetic practice “matadoring.” Aka when a big man concedes a dunk rather than challenge a shot as to not be embarrassed.
Amare knows what I’m talking about
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqaTaXk3Tcg
As someone who has played power forward with limited hops, this is to me is a greater sin than being dunked on. At least if you’re dunked on, you’re trying to stop the ball from going in the rim.
Therefore I declare Amare dunked on in this situation, considering his past transgressions.
I’m just saying, can’t we grade it on curve? It’s Tyler Hansbrough. What more do you want?
Those Lugz to the right are making me nauseous

truest statement ive heard today.

Nevermind… this^ is the truest statement.
Man Amar’e got dunked on. When you’re between the man and the basket and make a half hearted attempt to defend the shot you still get dunked on. That’s exactly what Stoudemire did.
It’s not a HUGE deal considering everyone gets yammed on however I did think it was funny as hell. Tyler’s not known for aggressive plays like this and, additionally, I gave mention to the fact that he’s playing well, so that’s why I highlighted it. If anything I had to put my pride aside considering how I REALLY didn’t like his game in college.

Not in the NBA I guess. But http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htwkRYa0gOk
Haha I knew someone was gonna post that clip in the comments since I thought about putting it in the post at first. Seeing that happen is still funny and terrible at the same time.
*Dead* at the “Dunked on Criteria” that this has spawned…
I must interject, however.
There should be really only 1 criteria for being dunked on:
“If you are anywhere within 0-3 of said dunker, then your ass has been dunked on (II).”
Being dunked on doesn’t require full body contact, nor does it dictate that you even fully commit to blocking the dunk, i.e. Exhibits “A” and “B”

Yooo…Patrick M. brought it back wit the two-tone key for the Hornets. But nah Amare got dunked on. He’s gonna be part of a hi-def Sports Illustrated photo in the first few pages from an awkward angle and it will show Psycho T completing a dunk with Amare trying to get in the way, and subsequently failing.
Lol @ ill Willie P
That Scottie jwn was the most disrespectful dunk but the Corey Brewer over the *big smile* Lakers was one of my favorites.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxfb3pTm2Hw
@Patrick M- damn good research, sir. And I appreciate you adding a new term to my vocabulary “matadoring”. That clip of Amare is embarrassing, and so is the clip from the Pacer’s game..but it still doesn’t meet the criteria I’ve laid out for getting dunked on..
@AP- Agreed, my criteria wouldn’t exempt those two dunks from qualification…to be specific I only suggest that you meet one of the 3 criteria laid out…
Enough criteria chatter…when i grew up I want to graduate from the Tom Chambers school of mid-air elevation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDyBSTQDwH8

Man, I’ve always wondered how the fuck Chambers got so high on that dunk?!?!?!
Chambers said “Naw I’ll take the stairs”
The Celtics got Hansbrough looking wack as well tonight… Nice!
Tom Chambers was a great in-game dunker. He could dunk when he was either pressured to or had a target/body to go over. Otherwise he was Mr. Jumpshooter/Layup Man…
amare did not get dunked on, he was not even close to blocking the ball and never made an effort, on top of that, they never really made contact!
Alon is always wrong when it comes to NBA, he thinks AMARE got dunked on by TYLER……there is noooo chance he got dunked on when he is under the hoop and not even trying!
ALON, YOU LOSE!!
