This summer, when we figured out why Based God was so damn strange, half of us realized there would be a point in time where his gimmick would work and the attention would lead to legitimate connects with legitimate artists. Then, with money in tow and opportunities to shine present, the Pack man’s lyrics would become less cooked and more bearable. Well, Hell officially begun it’s transition into Acapulco earlier this evening, as soon as 2DBZ dropped this Peoples’ Eye-inducing track into our shaken realm of reality.
I thought 9th was out of his mind when he sent this to me. But lo and behold this shit kinda works. Adding Phonte and Jean Grae to the mix – and I believe this is the first time Phonte and 9th have worked together since they’ve reunited – makes it that much better. I asked 9th how he made this happen, and his only response: “monumental….BRUH.”
What might be weirder about this semi-Little Brother-reunion appearing on a Lil B track is that the song does indeed feature ‘real complex’ verses from someone many people consider one of the worst rappers of all time. Consider us impressed.

Lil B Feat. Phonte & Jean Grae – “Base For Your Face” (Prod. by 9th Wonder)

So Lil B ditches the act and “comes correct”.
I still don’t see the big deal, cuz Phonte & Jean Grae still rap circles around dude
I thought Jean Grae was absolutely awful on this, and Lil B just sounds like he could be one of the unremarkable kids 9th Wonder seems to be giving all his tracks to lately.
LOL @ the tag Illusions Of Grandeur. You’re a fool Beware. This is definitely not one of 9th better beats because it sounds similar to a lot of his other stuff. The raps were definitely on point, even if Lil B doesn’t know what the hell breath control is.
I’ve been a “fan” of Lil B more because of his work ethic and positive attitude than his actual music. However, I have been open to his music a I do like some of his stuff. Will this song make me start saying “BASED”? No, but it does show that something about Lil B can attract rappers and producer the hip-hop purists adore.
Thank you based god
its a shame you Hiphop Republicans can only leave comments in the range of hate to back-handed compliments on music outside of your conservative ideals smh
^ bravo!
*claps*
Is there a more intriguing or enigmatic figure in rap right now?
It’s impossible to tell if this guy is a retard, a genius, a genius playing retard or a retarded genius.
He’s weird, intelligent, dumb, ignorant and charming all at the same time.
Seriously – The joke is on who?
still sounds like busted old based god to me. i respect dude’s love for music, but the style ain’t not my cup of tea. and i’m a fan of awkward deliveries. his just strikes me as bad.
anyone else find b’s xxl freestyle eerily reminiscent of tyson50?
^^^^ agreed w/ you all.
ppl kept his name relevent by discussing how bad he was. smart cat.
not a master rapper, but a master of jedi mind tricks n’ shit.
Thank you based god
“Hiphop Republicans”
———
Can anyone clue me in on what this term means?
sheeple will listen to anyting
fuck my bitches based god!
Lol @ hip hop conservatives
let the coddelling and assimalation begin
Hip Hop Republicans is an oxymoron.
I couldn’t even last 45 seconds…..(pause). Where’s the “Back to the Feature” 9th Wonder? Dead @ Hip Hop Republicans comment. Dude, we’re adults. Just because we make up our minds that we don’t like something, doesn’t mean we’re hating or we don’t get it.
This track – Lil B & JEan Grae + Big Pooh = Stop bullshitin with wackness and give me some Little Brother.
so first of all…. yea lil b is doing his businessman thing, thumbs up. but his music is still wack hands down. i hear “based god” and chuckle to myself… personally id rather follow someone worth my listening to like kendrick lamar… CPT! just saying :)
“Hip Hop Republicans is an oxymoron.”
Word.
I like it.
Rap Republicans enters the lexicon.
Life continues.
I will jam this joint regularly til you smart dumb mufxxkas catch up.
SWAGG
Lil B HAS been improving. Check out “Good Morning” and about 60% of Evil Red Flame (which at least has hot production).
Phonte never fails to bring it. Ever. Even if I prefer singin Tigallo to rappin Tay these days, he was the best on this. The Toy Story 3 and ‘swallow your pride like a gay lion’ punchlines stole the show.
Jean had lyrics, as always, but she sounded off beat and lacked the passion that normally sells her verses. I’ll still check for her whenever she puts anything new out- and I really dug “The Bridge” and think she should keep going with that style, as it suits her and she can pull it off- but I miss Bootleg of the Bootleg/This Week Hurricane Jean.
9th never did change his drums up, did he…regardless, I like this.
More than anything, this strikes me as Pretty Bitch Brandon watching his #Based buzz get overshadowed by Odd Future and deciding now’s the time to branch out. This was a good move artistically but B may want to consider putting some more work on his rap game before playing so far out of his league next time. An off-game Jean and a coasting Phonte still made one of Brandon’s better performances look like a weed carrier getting eaten up on his own track.
Unmentioned but notable: These are prolly the three most entertaining rappers on Twitter. Subscribe to Tay’s and Jean’s if you haven’t yet. Jean in particular seems cool as hell and down to earth. Phonte won me instantly with his tweet about “Saw some 19 year old girl with 6 kids…someone said it was a shame she didn’t have a wedding ring, I thought it was a shame she didn’t have a Nuvaring”. (Paraphrased)
Thank you Based God.
I didn’t hate it, but it’s not gonna be in the rotation.
where’s a new season of the boondocks when you need it?
phonte is a pretty bitch
somewhere Big Pooh just ordered an extra patty on his BK stacker out of grief.
I am cracking up at the amount of cats that are loving Lil B now because jean grae and phonte did a track with him.
The 2011 ODB.
TYBG.
this collab surprised me so much that I didnt even realize this is the first Phonte/9th collab in a long time. Lil B came harder on this one? Cant really tell. At least he didnt say “bitches on my dick cause I look like Madonna.” I like the beat though. Now Im going to go put on my backpack and burn all my LB and Jean Grae albums while crying, and start a blog to express my displeasure. Or maybe just go on with my life instead. Yeah that sounds better. Glad to have Phonte spitting again. Yall should post the joint he just did with Khrysis and King Mez
Jean Grae’s the weak link on this one…
The 2011 ODB.

NI@@A PLEASE.
9th never did change his drums up, did he
———————————————-
No, he never did. He never does. Rant over with, I hadn’t heard a Lil’ B track prior but he won me over. Plus having Phonte back for the first time in 7 years over a 9th joint is incentive enough for me.
The kid (Lil’ B) definitely needs more work, but he’s pretty good…(pause)
ya’ll kill me . RMF all day.
