Considering the amount of shots the average avid-hooper takes in a lifetime, the number 2,561 doesn’t exactly scream “record-breaking.” Reggie Miller sat on the retirement bench for years with that particular count minus one, that is, until the waning hours of February 10th, 2011 when Ray Allen decided he felt a certain way about the way history had been written.
But while Ray and Reggie both have likely triple the number of treys it took for them to be etched in stone during sideline shootarounds and backyard BBQ’s, the feat was accomplished by playing professional ball, during intense competition which ultimately revolves around teamwork and winning as an unit opposed to personal statistics and accolades.
We may be witnessing the greatest pure shooter that has ever played the game when factoring in the notion that the 35-year-old Celtic hit his landmark number while netting nearly 40% of those bombs and still has a few more miles left on his warranty.
As if the night couldn’t get anymore historic, Allen coincidently landed in the record books while facing off against legendary rivals the Los Angeles Lakers (over an onlooking Kobe Bryant at that!). Unfazed, the Lake Show went on conquer this singular battle in the never-ending war with a tally of 92-86. Yet, that minor victory will go on to be a mere afterthought in light of the monumental moment in Allen’s storied career. Come playoff time, both episodes could be utterly pointless if a NBA championship is the on the line. We shall see.

Where’s Cell?
^ lol i was thinking that too
Those Lakers throwbacks are nice!
He has the best shot I’ve ever seen. Too bad they lost, Lakers!
Soooo u mean to tell me that The Lake Show winning is a “minor victory?” Ummmm, this is the 3rd time in which the Lakers only visit to Beantown during the season has resulted in a W. Kind of a 3-Peat, if you will. Sounds like another kind of 3 peat, but you won’t see that till this summer. #GoLakers
LOL I was thinking like where’s Cell too? Ain’t nothing minor about this Lakers victory either & I can’t wait till The Jet & Chuck are proved wrong in June about it not being another Finals preview!
It’ll be one or the other in the Finals…not both tho…the competition is heatin up in both conferences so it’ll be tough for the rivalry to make it to the end. Plus injuries are already killin Boston and L.A. plays hard when they feel like it.
Watch out for my Mavs tho haha #JasonTerryFace
Okay 1st off, Ray is 35! My Celtics are old enough without anymore assistance, TC! I’ve been working double shifts this week so my online presence has been shaky but how could I not be here for this post.
@handsumdevil
Over the last 4 seasons the Lakers have only managed to win 3 in Boston? Psst, I’ll take that.
I can even take this loss in stride, seeing how we still don’t have half of our team right now and Paul’s flu kept him very muted while the Lakers were hitting on all cylinders and we only lose by six?
All I kept hearing last night was “Kobe’s a beast” and “he’s the greatest” and “if you be in Kobe, you will not perish but have everlasting life”. Spare me. This is a win that meant more to them than it did to us. Doc is still telling players to wait til after the All Star break to come back in the rotation.
I was working last night so I had to watch Ray make history on my Iphone but this achievement is bigger than most realize. From now on, every 3 pointer Ray Allen makes is a historical bench mark.
But yeah man Fuck the ‘Show! We’re coming back for what’s rightfully ours.
Happy Celts lost!
Lake show!
People keep saying Boston’s “old” so they are always injured but how many times has that factored in the Celtics availability? Just once… Kevin Garnet’s knee injury. All the other injuries are freak-like situations from non-old players; Kendrick Perkins, 26, has Kobe fall on his leg during game 6 in the Finals and tears his ACL. Delonte West, 26, falls from a foul and breaks his wrist. Marquis Daniels, 29, bruises his spinal cord. Nate Robinson, 26, with his bruised knee. The two Oneal’s can really play now but why play them really when you only got them to contribute in the playoffs. Pierce and Ray are the ones that are old for real and they haven’t missed a game yet. Don’t worry, come playoffs, as long as LeBron doesn’t gnaw off Big Baby’s arm or something, we’ll be fine.
They need to realease those Jordans he was rockin…

Well, 3 wins and a few championships. So you can take that as well
I wouldn’t be so smug. You’re only up ONE in recent years and down total tally. And like I said, we’re coming back for what’s ours. But you already knew that, you handsome devil you.
C’s will need to get through the Bulls to reach the Finals. Though it would be a hell of a series, I hope the Magic/Heat/Hawks take care of them first instead to give the Celtics some rest before the East Finals.
JESUS! Celtics baby!
