No reason to wonder why Lupe started off his Tim Westwood “H.A.M.” rendition with the preface “no Blackberries, no iPhones, none of that…we’ll just go off the top.” In 2011, the mere thought of rapping in a radio studio conjures images of an emcee reading off his Blackberry. Despite a handful of lyrical stumbles, Cornel West Side stays coherent in his spontaneous state and even drops some jewels while flowing tightly over the Watch The Throne single, earning bonus points for continuing his verse when the drums drop. Still, I can only wish he had kept it going until the beat’s epic finale.
