In 2011, this is as close to a “Roll Call” as you’re going to get. Annnd, in 2011, this could be considered the first noteworthy Hip-Hop full-length record to get the ball rolling; set the standard for where the beats, rhymes and life should be propelled to elevate the music standard in the commercial district. (You hear that Dre?).
You’ve seen a little bit, and heard a few more but holy taco Batman, this is the full enchilada we’re dealing with. Kanye West, Jay-Z, Marsha Ambrosius and some guy named Just Blaze (?) all help Saigon finally get his Greatest Story told and sold on 2.15.11.
Three years ago, some of you current skeptics’ heads would have exploded like that White supremacist on that Dave Chappelle skit. But since we’re all here, how does it sound? If we’re taking prop bets, how many Cigs will TSS Crew dole out for it? How long before Sai drops a mixtape on top of its presence, or will it have some legs to run with the big dogs come mid-springtime?
Only time will tell, but for now, The Greatest Story Never Told.

I’m clearin the schedule for the rest of the night for this
wow the invitation is dope as fuck only song i’ve herd besides the intro but damn what ill start
What happened to the joints with Bun B, Devin The Dude and Black Thought.
on track 5….so far, a banger. luvin it….let’s see if it keeps up.
My bad. Saw the Bun B and Devin The Dude joints. Still did not see the Black Thought one though.
Sucks they couldn’t clear that Preacher sample. Very, very good besides that.
Man….Atlantic straight fucked up. This is a great album.
^^^
co-sign that comment above. this album…is great…I truly wonder how Atlantic dropped the ball with this one. gonna give it multiple spins throughout the week before I makes a final verdict for myself….
but if I were a betting man: 4 cigs
damn homie…3 years ago you was the MAN homie
(as in…..3 years ago, the comment section woulda been blown up by now)
^
LMAO, Sad but true. This goes to show that good music doesn’t have an expiration date though.
Give it time, it is pretty late.
Great album though, about to start my second listen. I’m guessing a minimum of 4 cigs, but I’m thinking we will see a 4.5. I’m still salty at Drake getting 4.5 by the way lol
Props to Sai & Just Blaze… T.G.S.N.T iz Straight… But… Nothing REVOLUTIONARY though…
Man, this album turned out great. It’s a shame Sai doesn’t get a fraction of the attention he should.
This wasnt a mind-blowing listen, but without a doubt this is a debut folk would’ve been talking about for a couple summers, minimum.
The beats on this thing are still the highlight tho. Probably that last great batch of Blaze-horn-fueled street-symphonic influenced heat.
Saigon. Kanye. Saigon. Luther Vandross. (*drops mike, walks out room, anxiously waits for 2/15 to roll around to go to best buy to support sai giddy*)
Saigon. Kanye. Marsha. Luther Vandross. (*drops mike, walks out room, anxiously waits for 2/15 to roll around to go to Best Buy to support Sai Giddy*)
This album is a classic! http://bit.ly/gwgQ7J
The way this album is crafted and how each song flows into one another reminds me of UGK’s “Ridin’ Dirty.”
Sai is definitely on to something here…
You know you guys are gonna give it 3.5 cigs. Why even ask?
4 cigs is my guess. I love the album though, and I hope it doesn’t do SLaughterhouse numbers.
This album would be lucky to do Slaughterhouse #s. SH sold 18,000 of the 20,000 that was shipped the first week. Saigon won’t crack 10,000 first week.
I am half way through listening to the album and it is very good. As much as Atlantic should be blamed for letting this slip through their fingers, Saigon has to take some responsibility as well. The lack of humility and professionalism he has shown on occassion, has caused this project to be set back as well.
yprichb: You are right it probably won’t sell; but it won’t take away from the fact they he has created a great album.
I’m not gonna listen. I was a dude that actually bought Warning Shots when he came out with it lol.
I refuse to listen until it drops (I’ve already waited years, I can wait another week), but in looking at the track listing I’m sad they used the remix version of C’mon Baby. The original is faaaar better. I get it — name recognition, anyone? — but the original was, without question, a better song.
Otherwise, I’m not seeing anything else to complain about with this track listing.
Fucking incredible
As I’ve said before to me dude is the definition of extra-average but I’m willing to give this a listen. It seems like it could be dope despite sai’s unwittiness.
The instrumental would outsell the actual album. Take that for what its worth.
My guess having only a few of the tracks. 4 MAYBE 4.5 .. Nas on these beats would get a 5 but he doesn’t have the … charisma to carry it over the line into classic territory. Then again this album has something going for it most other classic albums never had — longevity from the release date.
Deserves 4.5, I’m guessing it gets 4. I’m gonna act really butthurt if it gets less.
@ Bigga Aka KG I was more so responding to @Shail than the quality of the album. I’m not one who thinks record sales means albums are good or bad. Saigon’s album is as good as what we expected 5 years ago when it was supposed to drop or however long it’s been. It seemed like Shail was taking a shot at Slaughterhouse when they actually sold pretty much all of what was placed in stores (according to them of course).
I am gonna fight my urges and wait until TUesday to bump this joint! I am excited though, this joint shoulda been out 4 years ago when dude was on entourage! Funny how mad rappers get into fights and have disagreements with their label, but this man get shunned b/c his material wasn’t “marketable” aka “ignorant”. Its even more amazing how the only complaint I have heard about this album has been that its “TOO LONG”. SO, dude actually makes an LP(also known as a Long Player) that is apparently full of bangers and flows like water, but people want to shun it because of its “length”. Wow, I always thought having a cohesive LP full of dope tracks was a good thing
I know Sai personally… he’s more charismatic as anyone Ive ever been around. He’s been through a very difficult few battles, but he’s a real mutherucker and he’s proven that now. This time I think he’s gonna get his.
