Remember how much effort it was to make a mix for someone, stop record, insert new cd, etc etc…
But as nostalgic as that makes me feel, iTunes ftw…
this post is within such good timing. got a tascam dr-1 over the holidays and in the process of transfering all those old radio shows i used to record here in Houston. TECHNOLOGY IS GREAT!!!
Yo Nas was not lying. On a Friday and Saturday night you were scanning the dial trying to catch joints.
Nope. born in 91, but my pops has a lottttt of cassettes & vinyl records laying around. And im talking about earth, wind & fire, jackson 5, smokey robinson vinyl records. lol.
But this is dope. Ima be on the look out for this.
I was obsessed with squeezing as many songs as possible into one cassette.
I remember that shit was so magical. Back when the idea of free music was still exciting.

you have no idea then man, cd’s are too easy… I used to have to time my shit perfectly, at 7pm the “hot 7 at 7″ would come on and you used to have to sit there the WHOLE damn show to record the songs and not the talking or commercials. Of course that was when there was less talking on the radio but still. Man I miss making crappy quality radio mixes. I gotta go see if i can find them… and a cassette player.
haha, just watched the vid.. what Nas said.
put the little piece of scotch tape over a wack cassette and dub over it. Been doin that since 10 years old. Havent done it in years but I must say its better than getting a virus from these damn downloads.
Haven’t done that shit since I was like 14/15….. used to be so proud of my tapes…. same with guest video-programming on RAGE used to record all the shit that would never get air-time…. where the fuck did all my tapes go?!
out here michigan state university (88.9) had a lil mixshow they did on sat night (the cultural vibe) and after 12 they played the cuss words and i used to tape that shit religiously every weekend and take those four hours worth of tapes and make a mixtape out of the dope and unreleased shit and sell them shits at school for 5 bucks a cassette.
i had trunks full of cassettes hundreds of them shits.
