Chauncey Billups Goes All Kareem Abdul Jabbar On Us

By J. Tinsley / 01.27.11

The one person I always felt sympathy for in the entire Carmelo Anthony trade saga was not Carmelo. It was Chauncey Billups. Over the years, I’ve grown to respect, admire and enjoy watching “Mr. Big Shot” carve his own niche in the league. He’s a Denver product who actually relished playing in the city and honestly did not want to leave. Then the brother messed around and got his kids involved and I found myself firmly planted on the “Keep Chauncey (Mile) High” campaign.

And why would Denver want to trade a guy who is a proven floor general and can play an emergency role as Kareem Abdul Jabbar when you need him to? Last night Chauncey and the Nuggets invaded his former stomping grounds at The Palace Of Auburn Hills where Denver handed the Pistons their 29th loss of the season after a 109-100 victory. Chauncey finished with 26 points and one highlight. Roughly middway through the third quarter, the point guard threw up a hook shot three pointer from Jimmer Fredette range which proceeded go in not even touching the rim. It was one of those shots which all but guarantees you a letter in “H-O-R-S-E” and one you’d probably only make five times out of 100 tries.

So what’s the catch, you ask? The shot didn’t count.
