Tracy Morgan Really, Really Likes Sarah Palin

01.28.11 Written by J. Tinsley

While Gotty Dougie’d on stage with Yelawolf last night, the Heat/Knicks game left me shaking my head. D-Wade went from extremely hot to unbearably cold with the change of a quarter and LeBron basically struggled all night, aside from a late run and a highlight worthy block on Ronny Turiaf. Meanwhile, Spike and the gang hung around long enough with critical fourth quarter three pointers to secure an impressive 93-88 victory. Still, the most memorable moment of the night came before tip off. Read the rest of this entry »

Smiles Davis & tabi Bonney – Postcard From Abroad

01.28.11 Written by Gotty™

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a visual person. Products that look dope grab my immediate attention and the cover art for tabi’s Postcard From Abroad looks like warm, playful vacation music. I can’t cop to having heard Smiles Davis’ name before but who can’t help but smirk at “Smiles” as handle? Read the rest of this entry »

The Wire’s Clay Davis Talks “Sheeeeeeeit”

01.28.11 Written by Gotty™

Sure, we could have included Isiah Whitlock Jr’s government name in the title, but it wouldn’t have resonated as heavily. Fact is the man will forever be Clay Davis, the notoriously crooked politician from HBO’s The Wire, and “sheeeeeiit” will be the first thing that rolls off the tongue when he’s mentioned. Our brother Vince from FilmDrunk spoke with Isiah Whitlock on the enduring legacy of his most famous catchphrase and the three minute short clip is probably the best thing you’ll find on the web today. Showbiz Feat. KRS One – “Improve Myself”

01.28.11 Written by Gotty™

First off, rise and give honor to God, who’s the head of my life. Pour out libations to the ancestors and give respect to our elders.

That said, “Improve Myself” may be the laziest f*cking record I’ve heard in a while, even more disappointing when it’s considered that KRS, Show & the whole DITC fam are legends. No misuse of the word; true legends in every form of the word and individuals who helped set the bar for what rap once was – Showbiz as producer extraordinaire and KRS…as KRS. But here, Show’s production offensively tired and KRS-One says nothing worth listening to the song more than once. Read the rest of this entry »

T.I. Feat. Rico Love – “Lay Me Down” Video

01.28.11 Written by TC

Of course Clifford has no say-so in the matter whether or not it’s wise to continue to push this garbage. But if Drake was able to swallow his pride and can the “Fancy” video, then this half-baked Pop Tart® could have easily found its way on the cold, bottom end of a garbage pail. Then again, Drizzy doesn’t have lawyer bills that could be used to cop shorefront property in the Hamptons, either. Read the rest of this entry »

Reks – “25th Hour” Video

01.28.11 Written by Ben Lampin

“25th Hour,” the first single off Reks’ new album Rhythm Eternal King Supreme, is clearly born out of love. From the very beginning, the song is a heartfelt ode to the boom-bap sound, aesthetic and culture. The production, especially the opening vocal chops, sound ripped from the mid-90s, which makes sense when you consider that the legendary DJ Premier laced this one. Read the rest of this entry »

Dr. Dre Feat. Eminem & Skylar Grey – “I Need A Doctor”

01.27.11 Written by TC

Round 2. Somebody must have been munching on acres of apple orchards last decade because Dr. Dre has basically matched his vocal output over that period of time in just the past few months. Slim Shady been crazy and he still needs his prescription filled to 1000 cc’s per bottle. So, with that, Detox has been ordered by the legendary pharmacist. Read the rest of this entry »

Nicki Minaj Feat. Drake – “Moment 4 Life” Video

01.27.11 Written by J. Tinsley

For as many head scratching moments as Nicki’s platinum debut Pink Friday may have had, respect is given where it is earned. Her reflective and humble collaboration with Drake, “Moment 4 Life,” was one of those tracks which immediately stood out on first listen back in November. Read the rest of this entry »

Wiz Khalifa Feat. Too $hort – “On My Level” Video

Wiz may be considered a freshman or rookie to most, but he’s definitely earned the respect of the O.G.’s out in Killer Cali. First you seen him on the set with Big Snoop Dogg, and now, Taylor Gang’s chieftain is spliffin’ it up and mackin’ the game with a real player in $hort Dog. Read the rest of this entry »

Smoke DZA Continues To Roll Up

01.27.11 Written by TC

Like a bag of that hydro that has your eyes tearing up as soon as they’re exposed to the contents, Sir Smoke DZA is keeping his potent levels high inside The Hustler’s Catalog. As one of the few Mary Jane abusers who is able to keep thorough without rhyming himself into a pigeonhole, everytime he steps out of his smoke cloud to flick some ashes, each effort continues to surpass the last. Spree Wilson Feat. Esthero – “Don’t Pass Me By”

01.27.11 Written by J. Tinsley

While I sit and watch this snow descend from the heavens, I’m at peace. No, that’s not some deep statement that will lead to a multi-faceted dissertation, but I really am cool for the moment. It’s not like I can go anywhere now with Mother Nature having her way outside, but the music gods did see fit to place a beautiful track in my possession. Read the rest of this entry »

Is Your Bootlegging Really Doing Any Damage?

01.27.11 Written by TC

There is a considerable difference between the suffixes “ing” and “ed.” So when you see a headline resembling something along the lines suggesting that “piracy” killed an industry, it has to be viewed up as completely false. It can be agreed upon that the music industry has been severely altered due to a number of factors but it is still very much alive—and will probably always be. The Music Void offers up a simple question that leads up to a series of complicated answers. Read the rest of this entry »

Kelly Erez – “Hand On Heart”

01.27.11 Written by MZ

As Hip-Hop and R&B musicians continue to get more comfortable in each others skin, it becomes harder and harder to find the respective genres in their purest forms. Thankfully, separation still exists across the pond as the UK manages to produce one or two new singers each year. Next up to bat is Kelly Erez, a rising starlet with a velvety voice that belies her London roots and is perfect for mid-tempo ballads. Read the rest of this entry »
