01.12.11 Written by David D.

When Tim Westwood interviews Drake, it’s like the irresistible awkward force meets the immovable awkward object. The last time these two squared off, it was a big old homoerotic weird-fest that made the world need to take a shower after watching. Read the rest of this entry »

Vado – “Hands Down”

01.12.11 Written by Gotty™

Photo: Crook Robbins

Go slime, it’s your time. As nation so astutely pointed out, “Hands Down” works the same sample as Slime Flu’s “Crimesquare” so we’ll assume the track’s just an extra of some sort. Still, he & araabMUZIK finding an enviable chemistry and Vado MH tosses out a few quips that grab your ears. Read the rest of this entry »

Freeway & Statik Selektah Feat. Lil Fame & Termanology – “From The Street”

01.12.11 Written by Gotty™

Was anyone aware that Statik and Free had whipped up a quick EP? Same way I reacted when I heard the news. The unfortunate part is these two guys have had a hand in two of Hip-Hop’s best the past few calendars, largely unnoticed by most but highly appreciated by folks who found the material. To thwart the new release’s lack of attention, “From The Street” serves as a bellringer, bringing in everyone’s favorite rabble-rouser, Lil Fame of M.O.P. and Statik’s 1982 compadre Term. Big Sean Is Lucky And G.O.O.D.

01.11.11 Written by J. Tinsley

It doesn’t take the most religious person in the world to understand the power of a blessing. While I’m not familiar with his theological practices, Big Sean is a testament to such. Touring the world with Kanye and possessing one of the most in demand names of the moment are second nature now. Read the rest of this entry »

5 Questions About Mixtapes With TDK Chronicles & Gotty™

01.11.11 Written by Gotty™

A few months ago, I was asked to share my memories and stories as a part of TDK’s “Life On Record” project. I didn’t get the video treatment Nas got but I feel completely honored to be involved and had a great time reminiscing about pushing ‘boxes together to make tapes, my thought processes as a young yardie/wannabe DJ and all of the aspects of what music once was to me. Outasight – “Losing My Mind”

01.11.11 Written by TC

Crazy insane or insane crazy? Whatever the case, Outasight has surrendered all his marbles, scruples and common sense to a 6th Sense track. Blythe with touches of jazz, harmony, Hip-Hop and the supertalent’s own patented saccharine style of vocalization, the audio poetry epitomizes the sound the coolest crooner out uses to wins fans over every day. Killer Mike – “Burn”

01.11.11 Written by Gotty™

To label Mike Bigga’s “Burn” long-awaited would be a supreme understatement, mostly because we’ve waited with bated breath since hearing early bits of the track in July. Seems as if the wait was well worth it indeed. Poetry, pistols and conviction.

“I will burn this motherf*cker down.”

PL3DGE due out March 2011.

Block Ent Feat. Gorilla Zoe, A.D.G., The Rebel Gang & Samuel L. Jackson – “Atlanta Falcons 2011″

Pic Via NFL

It’s been a long time coming for Atlanta Falcons football. When they lost their sharpest talon in Michael Vick, the amount of rebuilding seemed insurmountable. Now, with a little grind, grit and Georgia dirt, they’re NFC Champs and have home field advantage should they choose to take it to the biggest Bowl of them all. Read the rest of this entry »

“As Told To…” -The Paxtons’ The Manhattan Project

01.11.11 Written by MZ

Graphic: Talia

It’s always easy to write up a song when it comes along by itself or you haven’t heard anything from the artist in awhile. But choosing a song to highlight from a mixtape can be quite the conundrum, especially when there are several standout tracks. That’s where I found myself when time came to highlight The Paxtons’ Manhattan Project. One particular car trip found I was settled on “What We Doin’ (Ballin),” but then on the ride back home, “Livin A Movie” stayed on repeat. The next day, I found myself relating heavily to “Money Right.” Read the rest of this entry »
