Aloe Blacc made his national TV debut performing “I Need A Dollar” a few nights ago on Fallon. According to The Roots’ drummer, the late night staff still in awe a day later, winning Aloe a few new fans. As a huge fan of the album, I’m enthused he’s getting the deserved attention and the soulful brother lives up to it all with a magnetic performance, sliding and gliding across the stage wearing a smile the whole while.
Big up: Yardie

he’s got me in the mind of someone from the ’60s but I swear i can’t place it for the life of me.

I love his album; but I did not know he was such a complete performer.
After this performance, Aloe will take off his wig…and play the Knicks (Lamar)
Aloe Blacc or watch Raheem DeVaughn’s coochie-licking video repeatedly

Stones Throw has the best musicians right now.

man i love this guy. i hope him and janelle monae are signs that soulful music like this will be more popular in the future
This song is from the “How to Make it in America” intro.
Definitely a touch of Bill Withers, which is a huge compliment.
That performance was aloe vera smooth!
duke look like lamar odom’s smaller older brother.
nice performance tho.
Jackie Wilson?
Definitely has a bit of Bill Withers vibe on the album. Song itself reminds me of Curtis Mayfield.
David Ruffin or some other Temptation?
I think he has a little bit of influence from a lot of the fifties to seventies soul greats, including Otis. His voice is not as powerful but very soulful.
refreshing…like everyone said up there, hopefully everybody gives this dude his due respect, had his record on repeat right after i bought it…shit was sold out at amoeba in berkeley for a little while so that got me hyped too, AND got my boys to add it to the jukebox in SF. And stone’s throw does have some of the best artists on lock
Please post more of his music as it becomes available.
