Watching and listening to Vic Mensa contradicts the idea of youth being wasted on the young. It’s hard imagining being the young fella sitting in high school classrooms, watching the minutes creep by while knowing a large part of his future should be vested into time spent in a studio and maybe not science class. If he’s anything above a C student, I have to salute his efforts because he’s a definite A-earner on the mic. And while most spend their prime teen years consuming weed, McDonald’s and video games, Vic pulled together a few of his talented peers to form the ironically-titled band Kids These Days and release “My Days,” the first tune off their Hard Times EP.
Sharing an uncanny resemblance to Blu in both physical features and vocals, the Chicago kid doesn’t subscribe to the slapstick shenanigans we’re accustomed to hearing out of artists his age. Instead, the young MC pens pensive rhymes showcasing skills and acumen that probably can’t be measured by standardized tests. And while the song’s verses and chorus reflect wasted days and dreams, I find it highly unlikely These Kids are using their time unwisely.

Damn that first saxophone shot is sick.
Kids These Days, like Chicago is a mixed salad. Unlike a melting pot, a salad is a bowl of unique distinct flavors. A salad features it’s different flavors and doesn’t try to blend them into one taste. Each bite is different. Every person in the band represents a different vegetable. Different styles, sounds and taste of music. A collaboration of these vegetables makes for one hell of a nutritious snack. The different styles of the band members merge them into their own genre. On the road to a new type of music, Kids these days will forever stay true to themselves and not change for the “in” crowd. Truly an inspiration for young musicians everywhere, and proof that anything is possible with an open mind and hard work.
Song is really dope, sounds promising. But don’t ever compare this dude to Blu again please. Blu is arguably the best alive at the moment, yeah I said it. That would be like saying this kid Thee Tom Hardy reminds us of Eminem, come on SS.
to be honest, i heard a lot of Drake on Vic’s tape. not that that’s a bad thing. but now that you mention Blu … i can see it. I dont see Blu vs. drake being a bad thing.
mmmhhhhmmmm
damn that was dope
well put together fellas
The Blu comparison is very much relevant – first thing that came to mind when I heard this track on 2dope. Doesn’t mean he’s as good or anything like that. Group sounds promising in any case.
not bad, interesting project. could be good. the sax reminded me of budo’s work w/grieves for some reason
I saw this video the other day and liked it. I am interested in hearing more from them.
