Time has an unique way of masking itself mainly due to amount of experiences we all go through in life. 2005 and the moments which defined it may or may not be long since forgotten. Yet, with hindsight, some people, places, things and songs hold even more weight than they originally did. Beanie Sigel, in 2010, is a lot like Brett Favre in 2010 - their best years in the rearview and painfully watching their constant miscues broadcasted to the world.

However, like Kanye once tweeted, “Memories have to be our most painful blessing.” Six years ago saw the collapse of Rocafella Records and the end of an era. The present day venom from Beans is essentially what the depression in his voice was attempting to describe on The B.Coming’s lead single, the paranoid and painful personal realization “Feel It In The Air.”

I still paint that perfect picture,
I still shine bright like a prism
My words still skipping – through air
I know you can’t, don’t, won’t get it
You niggas chose to ride that ship sunk with it
I’m still afloat, I ain’t the captain of the yacht but I’m on the boat
I ain’t acting what I’m not knowing that I don’t
You niggas acting like you will but I know you won’t (You won’t man)
I read between the lines of your eyes and your brows
Your handshake ain’t matching your smile
I’ll holla, you niggas foul…

Given the climate of the scene then, and what this year has broadcasted, the words manage to hit the speakers with a tad bit more potency. For me, at least. Sig’s journal of confusion and fear were able to grasp their full potential because of a hook blessed by the angelic vocals of Melissa. The entire record was an example of what life sounds like when it crashing before one’s eyes. With jail in his future and potential money being tampered with, it’s easy to see why Beans chose to vent the way he did. And I, for one, am glad he did because it resulted in one of the legendary records of his career and the last stand from a label many swore, and still swear to this day, was the greatest of all time.

With Rocky becoming immortal, Vick having the city in a frenzy and Cliff Lee solidifying the Phillies’ pitching staff as the best in the solar system, here’s hoping the Broad Street Bully can somehow muster that same intensity for a worthwhile project in 2011. I hope.
