Joe Budden – “Ordinary Love Sh*t (Pt. 1)”

12.27.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Joe Budden’s music has always provided a gateway into what most others consider the private sector of their lives. From his back and forth with Angie, to the Tahiry era, to whatever he had with Somaya Reece to his current day love interest Esther Baxter, these relationships have all been the inspiration for quality music at some point. Mood Muzik 5 may be months away – or never – but “Ordinary Love Sh*t (Pt. 1)” has the credentials to associate itself with the series. Read the rest of this entry »

Stryfe – “Home Town Hero”

12.27.10 Written by Patrick M.

In the last few years  depression, corruption and all-around crazy hit no city harder than Detroit. The bright side? Chaos inspires and like ’80s NYC, Detroit has experienced a Hip-Hop renaissance. No city has churned out more talented underground artists, and when intrepid, young journalist LC pens the definitive story of the Dirty D’s downfall, there will be plenty of music to inspire and Stryfe’s “Home Town Hero” can be added to that playlist. Lupe Fiasco – “The Show Goes On” Video

12.27.10 Written by MZ

Lupe owns an impeccable, albeit short discography yet pretty much everything he’s done outside of retail releases is nearly forgettable aside from his early Fahrenheit releases. And despite having more stalls than Diddy’s last train, Lasers has finally received an official release date along with some sort of push from Atlantic and we can finally pay attention to him again. Planet Asia – “Boiler Makers” (Prod. By Madlib)

12.27.10 Written by Gotty™

Madlib doesn’t have regular fans; most are true diehards. I’m not one…yet, because I’m slowly becoming a convert. The guy’s beats are nothing to f*ck with. Read the rest of this entry »

Consequence Co-Starring Diggy Simmons & Mac Miller – “I’m V.I.P.”

12.27.10 Written by TC

The other day, I was critical of a Maino track, citing mailed-in verses as being a part of the problem for a good chunk of these daily MP3′s for being disposable. Thankfully, it’s a problem Cons The Don doesn’t have when he’s intent on getting busy and bringing his talented homies in the V.I.P. Read the rest of this entry »

Your NFL Recap: Week 16

12.27.10 Written by Patrick M.

A model of excellence and efficiency. That’s what the New England Patriots were in a 34-3 pillaging of the Buffalo Bills. The defensive forced 7 turnovers, the ground game went for 200 yards and Tom Brady threw 3 TDs. Ho-hum.

In addition to locking up the number one seed for the Patriots, this game should lock up the MVP for Brady. Michael Vick’s story deserves a Hollywood ending, but Brady’s faced more obstacles this season. Read the rest of this entry »

TrueHoop: How The Heat, Magic, Knicks, & Thunder Won On Christmas Day

12.27.10 Written by MZ

Christmas day basketball was the only thing that kept me sane as I finished out my workday on Saturday. Thankfully I was out the door during the second quarter of the Heat-Lakers game. I caught most of the Celtics-Magic game & that shot by J.J. Reddick was clutch. I just didn’t realize how clutch it was until I caught this stat provided by the cracker jack video team over at TrueHoop:

will.i.am – “Don’t Trip”

12.27.10 Written by Beware

The Black Eyed Peas front-man must have known his beat behind “Don’t Trip” was the definition of West Coast rap when he made it. Otherwise, there would be absolutely no reason why this plaid-clad “We Are The World” organizer would be boasting about itchy trigger fingers, low-lows and how much of a hustler he is. Right? 50 Cent – “Sunday Morning”

12.27.10 Written by Gotty™

“Sunday Morning,” Monday morning. The days seemingly run together around this time of year. It’s a far cry from the OG G-Unit album I rode to for the majority of the weekend, but it’s still got hints of frustration and edginess, two fundamental keys for Curtis’ musical recipe. Nas, Young Jeezy & The Kid Daytona Evoke The Holiday Spirit

12.24.10 Written by TC

Big media publications are so quick to point out the negative stories that routinely plague the inner dwelings of Hip-Hop, even if they don’t regularly cover the culture. So when it comes to broadcasting the diametrically opposite events like charitable and humaniterian missions, the majority of us aren’t holding a collective breath for any type of reports. “Starkology” – Review Of Ghostface Killah’s Apollo Kids

12.24.10 Written by TC

When Ghostface Killah likened himself to Ironman in the beginning stages of his career, he probably wasn’t implying that he would outlast his peers of the past, present and future when it came to Hip-Hop’s line of employment. However, here we are—numerous solo and group LPs alongside countless guest appearances—in 2010 with Tony Starks still prospering in the business, thanks to enthusiastic loyalists who lend him an ear whenever he asks to be heard. “Whn The Lites Go Off” – Review Of Redman Presents…Reggie

12.24.10 Written by Raj

Rap’s most prominent weed toker has undertaken a departure from what his fans are used to hearing with his seventh album, Redman Presents…Reggie. The typical lackadaisical, high-guy rap has been replaced with different content, flows, and overall atypical creativity style. While it may be unique, how deserving is it of merit? Well, that all depends on how low the bar has fallen. Read the rest of this entry »
