Rhymefest Feat. Killer Mike – “Super Guy”

12.29.10 Written by TSSCrew

Words by C. Paicely

Just wait until Fest’s alderman’s race opponent Willie Cochran gets hold of this. When Che revealed his political ambitions, many of us assumed he would be absentee from the mic and, for all intents and purposes, he has been. But every artist has a plethora of unreleased material sitting in a closet or on a hard drive waiting to be uncovered. Read the rest of this entry »

Eminem Feat. Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Stat Quo & Ca$his – “Syllables”

12.29.10 Written by Raj

For those of you who didn’t get exactly what you wanted for Christmas, it’s not too late. The Scrooge McDuck turned Santa of Hip-Hop, Dr. Dre, has opened the vault and let loose another more highly coveted record for your listening pleasure. The unearthed song, “Syllables,” sounds a bit dated, hosting appearances from now ex-Aftermath soldier Stat Quo in addition to a quick verse from long-forgotten Ca$his, who’s surprisingly still signed to Interscope for purposes unknown. But the heavyweight headliners – 50, Hov, Dre, and Em – are the obvious main attractions. Read the rest of this entry »

Pillow Talk 2K10: The 12 Most Slept-On Hip-Hop Albums Of 2010

12.28.10 Written by TSSCrew

Have you ever heard of hype? You know, that minor stipulation that keeps all your favorite artists off the radio and the regular, sometimes undeserving, 140 characters being plastered in the general public’s faces instead. In a perfect world, good music doesn’t fall on deaf ears, but since there are too many artists aiming to jump through the same window, the shards of glass may have hindered the easy access to the diamonds in the rough. PoV: Have A Drink Of Ron Jeremy

12.28.10 Written by TC

Who needs Viagra® when there’s some of the devil’s poison promoted by a legendary porn star to get your rocks off. If a Ron Jeremy Rum ‘N Coke will have you performing like America’s beloved smut peddler, you’ll see plenty of hapless cats ordering doubles when it hits bars nationwide. Star Slinger – “Bumpkin”

12.28.10 Written by Beware

Since handing off the iPod to my lady friend, I’ve recently reduced myself to mostly CD listening. So, without a burnt copy of Star Slinger’s magic instrumental LP Volume 1, I’ve been left yearning to hear one song specifically, which is his escalating map to happiness, “Bumpkin.” Bursting through your speakers with musical momentum, this one-man-band’s concoction of electric guitars, sing-song samples and current, thumping drums make for an instant good mood upon playing. Video: Black Milk – The Man, The Music, The City

12.28.10 Written by TC

If you don’t know where Black Milk is from, it’s probably a safe assumption to say you’ve never heard of him. Every piece of music he shares with his global fanbase, he goes out of his way to bring to them to Detroit, no matter their actual location. Although he wasn’t exactly at home when he sat down with Jeff Baraka in Chicago, they still made it a Midwestern affair as he runs through soundchecks and does his best to pinpoint the definitive sound of 313. Steve Francis Gets Kicked Out Of China

12.28.10 Written by J. Tinsley

There was a point in time when Steve Francis ranked as one of the more exciting guards in the NBA. That point has long since passed. Truthfully, I hadn’t thought about the former University of Maryland superstar in quite some time until coming across this story in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. Apparently, Steve arrived in Beijing, China, a country which had loved him since his days alongside Yao Ming in Houston, on December 14 to join the Beijing Shougang Ducks. Reek Da Villian – The Gift Mixtape

12.28.10 Written by TC

If you can’t beat ‘em, you might as well join ‘em and that’s how Reek Da Villian is presenting you with his new effort. Until Busta Rhymes figures out how he wants to attack the second half of his career, he’s giving Long Island his energy on the street album, mixtape thingamajig The Gift. Loud beats and contributions from Waka Flocka Flame, Fizzy Womack and that ill ass “Mechanics (Remix)” stamped with a big red bow is how we’re closing out 2010 with The Conglomerate. Kendrick Lamar, Curt@!n$ & Schoolboy Q – “Live Again” Video

12.28.10 Written by K1NG

Kendrick Lamar has built quite a name for himself in a short amount of time. After receiving a co-sign from Dre, Compton’s latest torchbearer has wasted no time capitalizing on the sudden attention being thrown his way. Hooking up with Curt@!n$ & Schoolboy Q, the West Coast wordsmith & his compadres trade verses articulating the pain that arises from growing up in a negative environment Read the rest of this entry »

Hail Justo 2K10: The 20 Mixtapes That Should Have Been Retail

12.28.10 Written by TSSCrew

Evolution is an inevitable part of the human cycle, but it is still remarkable how modifications can settle in so quickly. Take the “mixtape” for example. As the primary blood vessel that keeps an artist’s promo alive and thriving, it has progressed and weened itself off of DJ shouts, unsolicited gun shot sound effects and neverending tracklists to the point where it is indistinguishable from a retail album. Alicia Keys Feat. Eve – “Speechless”

12.28.10 Written by Gotty™

Whether most knew it or not, Swizz has been releasing songs on Mondays, one which did produce it a handful of notable tracks that may have gotten swept aside since several artists had similar weekly music seminars going. However, Swizz ended his releases fittingly on a high note by dropping “Speechless,” a track dedicated to his newborn son featuring his wife, Alicia Keys, and old Ruff Ryder running mate Eve. Grip Plyaz: The Man Behind The Music

12.28.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Everyone has a story, albeit positive or negative, interesting or boring, fulfilled or still in progress. For Grip Plyaz, his story represents one able to transcend across multiple boundaries. The “underground” Hip-Hop scene loves him and holds an unfathomable amount of admiration for him. The skateboard scene sees buddy as one of their own and he doesn’t even skate. Vado Feat. Raheem DeVaughn – “It’s You”

12.28.10 Written by J. Tinsley

In 2010, The Diplomats finally let bygones be bygones and decided more money could be made by being friends as opposed to acting like they never knew each other existed since “the breakup” a few years back. That’s all well and good, but even more important – and interesting – was the emergence of Vado. Read the rest of this entry »
