A few weeks ago, I drew the ire of a few folks on Twitter by saying Vado could very well end up being a better artist than any of the former or current Dips. I still stand behind the idea, considering that even on his best day Jimmy is an average rapper at best. I’m a huge fan of Capo and he’s a great entertainer, but there’s little argument for his mic skills. From Me To You Juelz bests the I Can’t Feel My Face, Weezy-influenced incarnation or the other style adapting versions we hear now.
So that would leave Vado and Cam.
There’s no denying Cam’s ranking with fans who came of age during the Dips prime, as they’ll place him in their top five dead or alive rankings. Outside of 50, no other emcee or crew rode the mixtape wave to success better than Giles. What charismatic Cam had and what most lack is the inventive nature surrounding his presence – the ability to create slang, rhyme styles and, off the mic, influence trends unrelated to music.
The differences between Cam and his protege aren’t glaringly different but still apparent. Early on, I was one of those who considered Vado to be Big L reborn but he’s moved far away from that comparison, at least in my ears. Equally creative as both L and Cam, Vado’s voice and style carry their own level of conviction, adopting a hard-as-nails rhyme style that goes for the jugular instead of dancing around the chance to finish opponents. The young Harlemite’s ability to mesh colorful language together and the complimentary production make Slime Flu one of my top five releases for the year, bar none.
Ultimately, the relationship is equally beneficial to both artists. Devout followers may not admit it but no one was harmed during Killa Season. Therefore, the best thing to happen to Cam is Vado, who pushes Killer to rap with the missing “umph,” the intangible which was needed again. And vice-versa, Vado’s biggest blessing thus far is linking with Cam, whose star still shines bright enough to create a spotlight for young slime as well.

Camron & Vado – “I’m About Cream”
Swiped: Mr. X

I co-sign this argument in it’s entirety, you ain’t never lie Gotty. Who’s ire did you draw? Obviously those cats are stuck in the early 2000′s Dipset era if they think that anybody on the current roster is fucking with Vado. Well, maybe Hell Rell, but I’m biased because he’s my favourite to listen to.
A lot of cats who grew up or came of age w/Cam as their hero, which I completely understand.
I didn’t even bother arguing second or third-tier Dips. If so, i’d mention Writer and Tom Gist.
what about JR Writer? not to knock Vado but Writer is crazy with it
totally cosign sir.vado got tht s.d.e. cam hungr.killa aint been da same since purple hazi if u ask me.i bought killa season n crime pays n was underwhelmd(tho i will say it was mostly cuz of da beats).tht 357 come kill me feel is missn imo.
yeah im gonna go with JR, he just wasnt able to make a good album but the dude’s pen game is by far the best. He didnt have the charisma of the others, but fuck charisma
Another very dope track from Cam & Vado!
What about A-mafia? He’s good too, in my opinion.
Vado’s flow in the last verse is bananas
Gotty is right on. As much as I grew up saluting Cam, Vado is the best thing for him. Same as Snoop to Dre in ’92, the duo have chemistry and Vado’s approach helps Cam in the elder statesmen role. I wasn’t convinced by Vado initially but he is def one of fav new artist on the last 2 years. Excited for his stuff in the future.
@complexcontext:
lol@Writer…”Bird Call” is a hot track, “To Be a Diplomat” is fire and he is okay on posse cuts, but dude has proven again and again that for all his technical skill, he can’t carry a track to save his life.
Juelz is odd in that he can be infuckingcredible (“Back Like Cooked Crack”, I may be the one who prefers “What the Game’s Been Missing!” to From Me 2 U but that is just one fun album) one minute and corny and horrible the next. Sometimes even within the same verse.
Vado is nothing but upside and all the Boss of All Bosses releases have been on point (I haven’t heard Slime Flu yet). He and Cam have awesome chemistry. I co-sign Gotty on this- most of the Dips have seen their best days, never had best days, or are too busy seeking crossover appeal.
That doesn’t mean their time is over or that they won’t still put out hot songs. But Vado has the most momentum, has as much or not more skill than Juelz when Juelz was in the same situation, and is hungry as hell. He’s one classic studio album away from solidifying himself.
The thing with the Diplomats is Cam is fine without them, they all need Cam, Vado is the only one I think could swim on his own… I was at the reunion show and Jimmy and Juelz solo sets were like watching a train crash in slow motion, Jimmy ain’t got no songs without Max B. or Cam…
