While most artists tend to hate being pressured by label-induced deadlines, this may be just what the doctor prescribed for Jay Electronica. After his sudden announcement yesterday, the man who hurt Diddy’s delicate feelings is putting hip-hop on notice once again, this time by featuring new labelmate Dr. Hov and nurse The-Dream on “Shiny Suit Theory.” While Kanye keeps stretching the definition of Hip-Hop, Jay Elec goes back to his roots by flipping The Ambassadors sample most recognizably used for Pete Rock and CL Smooth’s “I Got A Love.”
It’s amazing how after hibernating for so long since “Ghost of Christopher Wallace,” Jay-E has quickly catapulted himself to the top of the headlines in mere hours. He already has the fanbase, and now the big name cosign. All he needs going forward is an occasional shove or two to keep him in line and I’d say Act II has a decent shot at seeing some shelf time some day soon.
For added measure, ItsTheReal document “Jay ElecLebronica” taking his talents to the Roc.
