Inevitably, musical mixes with songs handpicked to match the season always pop up as soon as the temperature breaks and the mercury either rises or falls. And I usually embrace them all, considering each DJ’s version to be a different take on same picture. Today, we get Toronto’s DJ Mensa latest mix, an autumn offering entitled Seasons Change.

“It’s that time of year again. You feel that crisp brisk air circulate. You start favouring your greys and browns over your whites, and layering up just makes more sense. You begin to feel more introspective. The feeling of staying close to your friends intensifies. And the prospect of posting up wilding out at a party isn’t as alluring as that of just doing you, possibly with a book or some wine, or nothing at all.

Seasons change.

Much like Spring Cleaning, I let songs breathe, as they’re all deserved to be heard and the vibe is deserved to be felt. Some synths. Some Lo-Fi. A bunch of recognizable names. A couple unknowns. 33 tracks. 81 minutes. In the words of Stretch Armstrong, this mix is “chonky.”
