The tone and theme behind “Don’t Let Me Fall” – both the song and now the video – create a connection which ties B.o.B’s musical journey to his fans. As a lead for his Adventures…, the four minute track plays like an open prayer where the artist asks listeners to embrace his experiences and creativity. Bobby has a preacher’s voice that dates back to the call and response origins of our music, yelling out to each individual listener, eliciting a unique and emotional response from each person in earshot. It’s never me listening to B.o.B; it’s B.o.B’s voice shining a light on everyone’s journey, telling them to forge ahead even when the path ahead is dark and dangerous.
“Don’t Let Me Fall” isn’t just his song, but ours as well and it speaks to each of us individually. There are few songs and artists that occupy this space, perhaps a couple of tracks by Pac and definitely Outkast’s “In Due Time.” But that’s space Bobby Ray finds himself in as an artist, the rare one who managed to scrap his way to the top against the odds and soaring above the crowd by skill and spirit.
