TSS: To throw people off?
Waka Flocka Flame: Yeah, you gotta keep a person on the edge.
TSS: When people come at you with voting or educational questions, do you take it as a diss like they’re trying to say you or what you stand for it ignorant?
Waka Flocka Flame: I’m hoping they don’t.
TSS: So is it a career progression to get people to see that you’re not how they perceive you as?
Waka Flocka Flame: I mean…that’s on them if they think I’m stupid. I don’t care about them or all that. I’m about getting money. They on that other shit.
TSS: So is that we’re the song “Fuck This Industry” came from? Did anyone tell you before hand that a label’s main goal is to get in your pocket?
Waka Flocka Flame: Nope. And it ain’t the industry that’s really bad. The industry real. It’s the people.
TSS: It’s still a game of selling records and Flockaveli charted respectively well. What’s the next move from here on out?
Waka Flocka Flame: The goal for Waka is to get everybody around me financially straight. That’s my only goal, actually.
TSS: Being out on the road, what’s some of the experiences you’ve taken from traveling?
Waka Flocka Flame: Just how people think. And the struggles. How people struggle differently is crazy.
TSS: What about the females?
Waka Flocka Flame: Oh shit, they sexy as fuck on the West! They turnt up! They love that “No Hands.”
TSS: [Laughs]
Waka Flocka Flame: They get crazy on the tour bus. We play to win out here!
TSS: So down the line, in regards to your music career, how will be viewing Waka Flocka in a few years? Are you still going to be crunk?
Waka Flocka Flame: HELLLLLLL YEAH! I’ll always be crunk. My music will be forever turnt out! It’s me, FLOCKA!
Waka Flocka Flame’s debut album, Flockaveli is available on iTunes, Amazon and record stores nationwide exclusively on 1017 Brick Squad/Asylum/Warner Bros. Be sure to hit Waka on his Twitter @WakaFlocka1017 because it stay “turnt up!”

Waka Flocka Flame: I got that Flockaveli from the Niccolò Machiavelli story. The book. If you understand the Machiavelli story, then you’ll understand my life and figure out the reasons behind the title. If nobody understands the title, I’ll explain it after you read the book.
=======================================================================
I call Shenanigans!!! Waka did not pronounce Niccolo Machiavelli correctly.
He play dumb like MJ play basketball, like Ali play Boxing, like Stevie play the piano
^ He play dumb like it comes naturally to him!
Maybe he didn’t pronounce Niccolò Machiavelli correctly, but that doesn’t mean dude is some what intelligent.
I used to think Waka Flocka was pretty stupid. Now I’m positive he is. TSS shame on you. Y’alls introduction for the interview didnt even sound convincing.
i’ll never understand the hate for the guy. is it b/c he got on or is it dislike for the people who choose to like him?
this is a progressive hip hop blog
waka flaka is regressive…with that said i like some of his shit.
I think Waka’s just music and I find what he’s doing to be…captivating to a degree. We find it interesting, we seek more info as a result. It’s not algebra or anything lol.
Funny how Waka will draw commenters from the woodworks but when we do post “progressive” artists and their music, they garner the least attention and comments in reply. Marinate on your roles in that.
Wow. His answers were more than one word. I’m stunned.
And the nigga said he read the Niccolò Machiavelli story. If he really did, that’s also a shocking plot twist. Maybe he read the cliff notes or scanned thru it on Wiki.
But keep it 100, man. He took Flockaveli from Pac straight up & down, ain’t no “Pac introduced me & I took it from there” shit.
Here’s my gripe wit son, Gotty. And it ain’t cuz he got on, I’m no hater. #1, that BET appearance was a disgrace & Terrance J is partly to blame cuz he knew the nigga would say some dumb shit. When you on national TV in front of a bunch of kids, at least PRETEND you know sumthin. C’mon, son.
#2-Every rapper I like ain’t lyrical. But when you don’t care about your craft, that’s where I got a problem. If a scrub athlete who got into the NBA or NFL by luck said, “Yeah, I suck at this sport but fuck it, I’m just out to get a check,” fans would be up in arms. And that’s basically what Waka said with his, “I ain’t got lyrics but I’m gettin paid” statement.
People get mad at JaMarcus Russell, Eddy Curry & Kwame Brown not just cuz they suck, but cuz they don’t give a shit or even try to get better.
Funny how Waka will draw commenters from the woodworks but when we do post “progressive” artists and their music, they garner the least attention and comments in reply. Marinate on your roles in that.
==============================
AMEN!!! That’s probably the best way to word that.
I don’t hate Waka, I just don’t care much for his music.
I do see the interest, and that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t have the opportunity to shine.
Good interview.
Man, I thought I was reading the Tila Tequila interview LMAO

I agree with that, G.
And who knows… Jeezy & Rick Ross stepped their rap games up, so maybe one day, Waka will too.
By then, Armageddon may be here though.

That interview was bad. But he isn’t the 1st dumb ass to ever garner media attention.
I don’t think he is any good as a rapper; I can’t get mad at him for aking the opportunity and making the most out of it. I just don’t listento his music. Saying he plays dumb is a pet peeve of mines, too many rappers/MCs buy into this notion that to be the “cool kid” you have to be dumb. I have read in interviews NORE, Keith Murray, Capone admit to not only dumbing down lyrics; but acting as dullards to be able to connect with the fans.
As far as TSS interviewing Waka, I don’t think anyone has the right to question why he is being interviewed here or having his music on the site. Like it or not he is a part of the culture; and there are some people who enjoy what he is doing and wants to know more about him.
Let me waka u just a crunk a$$ n***a flocka will live on
Rather than going on a long winded rant, or discussing his disgraceful choice in album titles, I think a quote from Immortal Technique from his ‘Industrial revolution’ track captures my feelings on dude perfectly: “If you go platinum, it’s got nothin’ to do with luck, it just means that a million people are stupid as FUCK.” Carry on.
i always liked that Immortal line lol.
Khalid, I can respect that. Not that I agree (or disagree really). I’m just glad to see someone articulate what it is they dislike about dude other than “his music sucks.” hell, a lot of music sucks…and it’s selling.
But I’m not judging him that hard until i learn more (and he grows more). A Lil Jon might seem ignorant, but he’s actually pretty smart. I can say the same for a few other rappers that people underestimate. They may not be geniuses but they understand how to connect w/people, build their brand, and assoc themselves w/the right folks.
Funny how Waka will draw commenters from the woodworks but when we do post “progressive” artists and their music, they garner the least attention and comments in reply. Marinate on your roles in that.

i wont front id rather listen to waka then kid cudi…i was speaking from the outside looking in on what i specualte the hate might be based on.
hes not ill on the mic but i respect what hes doing just like i respected gucci when everyone else here at tss said he was garbage.
this dude makes real krunk rock and roll. He isn’t lyrical, but that doesn’t take away from the sound. It’s all of that negative bullshit, but this is what Triple six should sound like now.
I honestly don’t think this man is dumb. I feel he is new to the game so yes he would be thinking about money and his family or whoever is around him first.. I do feel he could get a better plan and if he is not intelligent. At least present him a little different in certain situations. It’s a time and a place… So times you have to put on to continue to go far. He go hard though!!!!
The Prince isn’t an easy read, and I’ve read it twice. I don’t know too many people who read that book, let alone understood it. If he can relate to that I both feel sorry and applaud him.
He may carry himself as stupid or slow, which he admitted in the interview I might add, but I’m sure dude has something going on upstairs.
NICE INTERVIEW. U DOIN UR THANG N ALONG WIT THAT COMES HATE N FAKE LOVE FRM THEM ALL. U KNW UR GOALS N WHATS IMPORTANT 2 U N FRM THUS FAR I SEE U SUCCESSING N WHAT U WANT. UR GOALS R 2 MAKE GOOD MUSIC N KEEP UR NAME POPPIN N IF U ASK ME U TURNT UP U GOT NIGGAS N BITCHES SUPPORTIN U N ALL I HEAR ABOUT IS WAKA SO KEEP DOIN U BUT ALWAYS KEEP A POSITIVE OUTLOOK ON THINGS THE WAY U DOIN. JUST KNW EVERYBODY NOT GONE FEEL THE SAME ABOUT U N UR MUSIC OH WELL FUCK EM KEEP DOIN WHAT U DO 4 U UR FAM FRIENDS N FANS.. N KEEP UR GRASS CUT(SNAKES N THE GRASS) LLS I LOVE ME SUM WAKA N DNT GIVE A DAMN WHO DNT IF U HATING TRY 2 CHANGE WHAT U CAN ABOUT UR SELF N DO SUM RIGHT MAYB U COULD GET SUM SHINE FOOD 4 THOUGHT FLOCKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
People get mad at JaMarcus Russell, Eddy Curry & Kwame Brown not just cuz they suck, but cuz they don’t give a shit or even try to get better.
_____
What Pacino said. That criticism can be shared with a laundry list of artists out right now IMO. Then again the don’t work harder, work smarter rule comes into play here too. Except at times it isn’t always clear to see who’s being strategic vs. who’s just going along for the ride.
I’m not a fan of Waka Flocka. With that said I am a major proponent of his big brother Baracka Flocka Flame.
______

______
That’s true too although people aren’t supposed to like everything progressive just because it’s labeled as such. I’m not saying you said that but I think you should like music b/c it provides genuine enjoyment: not solely because it fits within a movement.
TSS: Gotcha. The “Bustin’ At ‘Em” video drew a big response and even prompted people saying you advocated cop killing…
Waka Flocka Flame: No I’m not. I got that concept from the Summer of Sam. That’s the movie I’m reenacting.
==========================================================================
really waka? sure it wasn’t no country for old men?
Maybe he’s pulling a BASED GOD. Lil B’s lyrics are dumb as hell, but the dude is supposedly really smart. Maybe the joke’s on us again…or maybe, and more likely, the dude is as dumb as a sack of rocks
I loved how he keeps it 100 when he asked the question why do you make music. Most fuckers start with a sob story talking about ” i love hip-hop” n shit but when the album flop boo hoo im mad hip-hop is dead. Flocka is crunk music the spot light is on him bkuz he is the only crunk rapper out. Salute to flocka
All I know is my gym cd right now. He got his lane & I expect nothing else from him.
i wodner if he knows about the context that book was written in?
Machiavelli wrote all of that sarcastically whereas all his other writings condoned the things in that book and championed a republic…
he wrote it to stay in the good graces of the royalty at the time
and they like most other people do, didnt really pick up on the sarcasm
but hey
who knows

Slow down, John, you killin’ em.
and you know how you can tell he read Machiavelli?
He plays dumb. Niccolo tells you, get ‘em to let their guard down… they won’t know what hit ‘em.
These trap dudes are smarter then we preceive them. Remember that interview Gucci did about going to jail on some video shoot and that statement he made after he got out? He sounded intelligent as hell. I wouldn’t be surprised if Waka had on a turtle neck, a blazer and some glasses fixing his pocket square during that interview lol.
I understand the whole playin dumb thing but why play dumb in front of a bunch of kids on BET? I don’t think the voting thing was an act, he really ain’t know & he’s just brutally honest.
Soulja Boy talkin in Vibe about how he shot niggaz… now THAT’S actin’. And bad actin at that.
I swear up and down that I don’t like Flocka but he always does something that makes me respect him. I won’t buy his whole album but some of those joints will get an itunes download.
i may be bugging, but when did a cop get strangled to death in summer of sam? i thought that video was supposed to be no country for old men?
Yeah..no.
Well I like waka flocka.. And if u look at it he’s from down south so thats half of the reason; and how he was rasied.. He don’t care wat people say and he’s not going to change for anybody..he’s doing him..and leave it at that… Waka flocka baby do wat says:

Dead for the fact she/he typed that in the name column.
And gotty i really respect this interview & find it very interesting t9 kno how he handles most of his situations. But at the same time, when i listen 2 waka now (who i actually like btw) i think back to that video with the super crip/blood. If anybody has seen that video you know exactly what i’m talking about.
I had no clue that flockaveli was a real album, I always thought.that it was one of his 33 or whatsohaveyou mixtapes he said he was going to drop in 2010.
i will try to use Waka Flocka Flame…
All new video interview with Waka Flocka Flame! The rapper talks about Machiavelli, “No Hands” & his favorite films with ARTISTdirect! [bit.ly]
Lol, at acting like you don’t understand how some listeners can’t stand this garbage. You dudes act like ignorant, crunk music can’t be done well with actual skill. Hip-Hop purists probably can’t stand Project Pat, but to me he made top notch gangsta music. This waka dude just hollers over cookie cutter beats, with no real skill at all. Thats where most of the criticism comes from. Not the typical bloggers and fan boys response, “Oh, you just hating cuz he’s on”.
The Summer of Sam shit is hilarious! He obviously didn’t see either Summer of Sam or No Country.
I love how TC says “gotcha” after Waka explains the machiavelli shit. This was great
