As a LeBron James fan, it’s been a rough summer. The critics, the analysis, the Comic Sans font, the old heads. Pretty much, the guy has seen his image go from Barack in ’08 to Kat Stacks in 2010 in one offseason. Throughout the summer, I’ve found myself in a countless number of debates defending LBJ and the fact he’s still arguably the best player on the planet. That’s about the time when the wolves come out in defense of Kobe Bryant. True #24 supporters are a different breed of fans, you see.
They know what it’s like to have their favorite player be “Public A*shole #1.” They have no remorse for buddy (LeBron) and have no problem whatsoever reminding me that Kobe has five rings and is roughly 100 games away from his sixth. Fair enough, but what about one-on-one? In terms of pride and basketball, that’s what it all boils down to. Kobe’s cerebral assassin mentality or LeBron’s sheer God-given physical prowess? Never one to shy away from competition, the Mamba-man gave his answer while helping launch the London School of Basketball.
“I’d win, I’d win,” Kobe said. “That’s what I do. One on one is..that’s easy for me, you know. Playing 1-on-1 is how I grew up playing, it’s like my thing. LeBron is more like a Magic Johnson — he’s a great passer and plays an all around game. At the core of me, I’m a 1-on-1 player. I’d do that in my sleep.”
This NBA season cannot start quick enough. Thoughts?

I think Kobe would beat him. Lebron would have the undoubtable edge if he had a better jumper and a post game worth talking about. But all that size doesn’t really add up to much when you can’t use it to its full extent. Carmelo bossed Kobe around at the start of the ’09 WCF offensively b/c he’s a more complete scorer than Lebron inside and out. The only thing Anthony can’t do consistently is hit 3′s but everything else comes too easy for him.

Kobe is better shooter. Lebron is better defender. Defense wins games. I think regardeless of how many shots kobe makes, they would all be shot under duress. Lebron just has to get “hot.” Kobe rarely shooots well when he has to play defense. Lebron could back Kobe down every time and make the shot 60%. How many shots can Kobe really make with a bigger and solid defender. He needs to take alot of shots to win games. This is if Lebron even let’s him elevate over him. Lebron elevates very high, so Kobe is not fading away or shooting over and average defender which is what we have in the league today. We have poor defenders which makes Kobe look better, although he is a true scorer. Lebron keeps a hand Kobe’s face, body him up a bit to bother his shot, I wouldn’t be suprised if Kobe even scores much. Take what Tayshawn Prince does to Kobe and he is not as athletic as Lebron. What about Artest bothering Kobe and he has no leaping ability. Now we have a quick, solid, leaper, and decent shooter in Lebron who prides on defense and knows how to use his size and angles to bully opponents. Yes, Lebron misses jumpers, but who doesn’t? And take into consideration he can fire up a shot from practically anywhere, make or miss. Beleive me, Kobe can shoot all over but his range is limited. Kobe gets to an area and jumps over people.
