Ever since XXL slighted Crooked I by neglecting his contribution to the origin of the weekly release, he’s been a man on a mission. A mission to not only make them acknowledge and apologize for their mistake, but to show the world he can do the whole thing over again by force-feeding an additional year’s worth of rhymes down our throats (||). And while Hip-Hop Weekly Reloaded may have started off a bit slowly, XXL’s comments have proven to be quite the catalyst and after a solid Week 10 freestyle response, his Week 11 freestyle takes it into beast mode.
On my first listen, I was completely blown away and two days later, I’m still blown away. Featuring Joell Ortiz, this joint over Waka’s “Hard in the Paint” is murderous. These two absolutely wrecked it. This was cruel and unusual punishment. No one should touch that beat anymore and I mean it. Not even the most renowned lyricists. No Waynes. No Pushas. No Lupes. No nothing. There is not one rapper alive who can come remotely close to matching what they did. Crook and Joell have already proven their seamless chemistry together in the past and this time they combined to create a freestyle that is not only the best one of I’ve heard this year, but so far ahead of the competition that if you asked me to think of the runner up, I would have no idea. In layman’s terms, this is what is known as perfection. Peep the magic for yourself.
