The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. – Martin Luther King
This is probably one of the few times Lil Boosie will ever be mentioned alongside MLK , but the quote sums up the turbulent and emotional life of Torrence Hatch. The story is public record. What started as a two-year term doubled to four and accusations of murder for hire has one of the most beloved Southern artists of all-time eye-to-eye with the death penalty. If there was ever a post I found myself jealous of on TSS, it was David’s revealing interview with the man himself nearly a year ago today. Not necessarily because of the pills in the exit hole revelation but mainly due to Boosie’s emotional, yet expressive mindstate at the time.
In what will be a nine part series and prelude to his Incarcerated LP, Motion Family looks to shed light on the life of Boosie during his last days as a free man. I don’t know if Bad Azz is guilty and I don’t feel as if I have the right to really say whether he is or not. One thing I will do, however, is pray for his family. A sense of uneasiness came over me watching this clip just seeing how dependent his entire lifeline is on him recording song after song and rocking show after show. If I’m worried about how they’re managing without dude, I can only imagine how many sleepless nights Boosie’s had as a result,
It’s just real life shit, man.
Witnessing his actions and taking into account what wasn’t said, the amount of stress is beyond evident. Cigs help mask the pain, but they do little to take it away. You’re not supposed to know what the future looks like. Well, this is what it’s like when you do.

Look, I honestly can’t feel even a tiny bit of sympathy for the dude. Mutherf***er was a killer for hire. Stop worrying about this douche, and start worrying about the families of the people he had a hand in murdering. Hip-Hop really loses its head sometimes, and this is definitely one of those times.
if he gonna get the death penalty shouldnt bush and cheney and whoever they hired for those “death squads” as well as the US military all catch a case… Im just saying… they all did it for money.
Yeah, I’m sure the U.S. Military did it for the money. I mean, look at those outrageous paychecks! Who wouldn’t want to go to war?
What the hell are you saying, dude? There’s no money in being a soldier. You just get shot at, and then at the end of it, some douche in higher government tells you to go do it again. The soldiers are the f***ing victims here.
Also, what the hell are you talking about about with “death squads”?
It’s called the military-industrial complex. It’s basically a whole bunch of powerful corporations and people in power who benefit from having wars. Soldiers are exploited and underpaid so that the companies that sell guns, or that rebuild countries, or that sell natural resources, can make more money.
@dimitri
did i say the soldiers? calm down my righteous friend. Im talking about the generals, the US military. Not the soldiers. “Support the troops, not the military”
the US government, since the Bush administration, sends death squads to other countries and uses them within our own country to kill homegrown “terrorists”. Dick Cheney also had a Joint Special Operations Command that reported to him and only him. After Cheney left office Vice Admiral, the head of the unit, ordered a stop to it claiming there were too many collateral deaths. this was all discovered by the same man who uncovered my lai and abu gharib. later more reports came out of a similar group run by the CIA.
*vice admiral william h. mcraven*
free boosie.
Not to be insensitive here but…
“There’s no money in being a soldier. You just get shot at, and then at the end of it, some douche in higher government tells you to go do it again. The soldiers are the f***ing victims here.”
When was the last draft again?
aight, Pandas, i apologize, man, i misunderstood you. I agree with the majority of what you and Em Dub are saying. i thought for a second you were trying to disrespect the troops, and I couldn’t have that, haha.The military treats these guys like sh*t, and they get nothing for it. And yeah, Dick Cheney was quite possibly one of the most dangerous figures in America during his too-long reign as the unofficial head of the U.S. government. i’ve never heard of that death squad stuff, but i’ll definetly check it out. Sorry for gettin mad,tho, thought you were saying somthing else.
@dimitri
nah i got you. people are passionate about the troops. Ive lost two friends in afghanistan. i would never shit on the men and women who volunteer to have someone else put their lives on the line.
@Pandas
Damn,dude, I’m sorry to hear about your friends. It’s a tragedy how badly they’re treated out there. I think we all just want them to come home.
Our Army and Lil Boosie both shoulda just left the business of death alone.
Death only begets more death.
Come on, to equate this with soldiers is pretty ridiculous. I come from a poor rural area, not the hood, but what they have in common is that most of the people in the army come from those places. I’ve lost a good friend to war, as have a lot of people..
Maybe Boosie is getting railroaded, i dunno the specifics of the case, and i’m all for mindless displays of “free ___” because it’s what you do when a rapper you like is incarcerated, but don’t compare this shit to people who go to war. sure there’s no draft, but for a lot of people there’s no other option – the military is the biggest welfare program in the country for that reason, it provides an outlet from what would be a dead end.
Just like some dude may sell drugs to feed his family, another dude will go to war to feed his family. until you’re in their shoes you can’t talk down, even if selling drugs kills the community and the iraq war was corrupt and illegal.
@ezpz
truth
@fuzzy
like i said… not directed at the people who GO TO war, but directed at the people who DECLARE war.
Back to the basics, though. I’d like to believe Boosie didn’t do it. Is there any chance of that?
These comments are the reason I love this site more than any other “hip-hop blog”. The fact that many are making connections (directly or indirectly) with the military industrial complex with the prison industrial complex is pretty dope. Also, it’s refreshing to see folks have civil debates/clear up misunderstandings in a manner that is based on both anecdotal and empirical perspectives.
Sure as hell beats the norm…check the link for a good laugh

Are people like you really stupid enough to blame soldiers? Those men protect your right to your freedoms and you talk about them alongside people like Lil Boosie?
You know the difference between the two? One man serves, not to kill others, but to protect his country. Boosie on the other hand took life with the intent of bettering only himself.
My older brother died in Afghanistan you piece of shit. So why don’t you get the balls to “go to war” and see what it’s really like, or shut the fuck up?
Boosie was a killer for hire, he deserves to be on deathrow. How the hell is he being compared to soldiers who fight to garantee us the freedoms we enjoy here. I have friends who went to iraq and some that never came back they are heroes, boosie is a thugg part of the problem that plagues our societies. Fry him.
I’m just trying to have transparency here but i thought it was Boosie who was hiring men to kill for him, and second i have to agree with everyone who says how can you compare this to any wars the U.S. has been involved in. Not to make light (of the situation) but when it comes to conspiracies and systematical moves made by this government you are dealing with over one-hundred years of mastering that, so there can always be a plausible way of defending what they do. This “Boosie” has a choice, I don’t care where his from, and although he is a part of that systematical way of keeping us (black folks) down he fell into the trap. In the words of Minister Farrakhan (not verbatum)”any black man who is about the downfall of another black man is an enemy to the race”
@johnny GQ and Hellnah
read before you make asinine comments okay? thanks.
and as far as “balls to go to war”… why am i going to fight a war someone else started, and that i dont agree with the principles behind. doesnt make sense. im sorry for you loss johnny GQ.
@johnny GQ
plus the quote you chose to attack was from someone who was actually saying similar things you are… and as far as protecting our freedoms.. i think we need to protect our freedoms from our own government before we start worrying about others. the patriot act is not something terrorists put into use, it was our own government stealing our freedoms.
nah i got you. people are passionate about the troops. Ive lost two friends in afghanistan. i would never shit on the men and women who volunteer to have someone else put their lives on the line.
============================================
Yeah, man. I feel you.
Probably one of the few times Boosie mentioned with MLK??? Try the only time
@Johnny GQ
hey you ever heard of sarcasm, dude? look that sh*t up, man.
