“Hate to say it, but Young Jeezy’s new music has been kinda disappointing. Is Da Snowman melting?” – BDot

Ditto.

Jeezy’s one of the most charismatic voices in the rap game and 2008′s The Recession damn near caused a civil war when we were rating it. However, everything between that release and now has been lackluster, sounding dull and hollow. It isn’t that his voice or delivery have changed much since Jeezy’s early music. It just lacks the cockiness and conviction that Young embodied as he stepped from the trap to the booth.

Still, I expect TM103 to shine. Jeezy reportedly tucked himself away in producer Shawty Redd’s basement, who was then fresh off murder charges, to record the album. These two obviously have a working chemistry and there’s undeniable appeal to albums that adopt the one rapper, one producer archetype. Let’s just hope they’re both able to muster enough creativity and cohesion to make this sequel one to remember.

The first time we ever shared Skewby’s music, I was concerned. Not because there was any doubt in my mind the apparent excellence was post-worthy, but because homeboy was so talented, I just assumed we were beyond late. To my surprise, the Tennessee MC’s Proving You Wrong Since 1988 mixtape had received little to no burn on the hip-hop blogosphere and ended up living up to its title. In the year or so since, this all-around talent has released simmering songs and multiple music videos to showcase his Ginsu-sharp skill set, building skyscraper-like anticipation for his fall debut, More Or Less. As I spent a lazy Sunday afternoon watching NFL games (or they watched me rather because I usually nap during halftime and the third quarter of the first game), I noticed my Nike radar go off…and a talking Rick Ross chain. I paid it no mind, figuring my hallucination to be a side effect from the prescription cough syrup I was sippin’ on.

Instead of just handing Lloyd Banks his well-deserved Gold plaque for “Beamer, Benz, Or Bentley,” Curtis and B Rabbit go all Ashton Kutcher and make the hottest member of G-Unit believe there had been murmurs of him saying he didn’t want Eminem to make an appearance on his third album, Hunger For More II. It’s questionable whether or not this was staged, but it’s pretty good nonetheless.

What’s also funny is the fact that Banks has two more hit singles than his boss and doesn’t have to do songs with Soulja Boy or Lil B.
