Danny Brown – “The Nana Song” Video

09.10.10 Written by LC Weber

Finesse of a low-budget video must be rooted in talent. A weighty skill set is the boiled-down, made-from-concentrate, rap extract a Hip-Hop video made in handheld night vision must begin with. It is as essential as Adam’s rib was to Eve. Read the rest of this entry »

Lil Boosie’s Last Dayz: Countdown To Lockdown

09.10.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Just watching these clips remind of Mase’s classic “24 Hours To Live.” Even with full time jobs, school and other duties, it’s sometime hard to fathom how many tasks can truly be accomplished in a set amount of time. With most cases in life, tomorrow always presents another opportunity to complete whatever the previous day didn’t allow.

At this point, only 72 hours separate Boosie from not being afforded that luxury. Read the rest of this entry »

Naledge Is Twentysomething

09.10.10 Written by MZ

It may be Naledge Born’s born-day, yet he’s the one doling out the gifts. The Windy City native linked up with Aphilliate DJ Moondawg for his Twentysomething mixtape to celebrate the occasion. Much like The Land Of Make Believe, Twentysomething is a celebration of that transitional place between 25 & 30. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s 2004 All Over Again

09.10.10 Written by J. Tinsley

At least for a moment, it is. Twista’s 2004 album Kamikaze dropped right at the beginning of my second semester of senior year in high school. It ended up being one of my most played albums of the year and Kanye’s influence was one of the main reasons why. Read the rest of this entry »

Big Boi’s Mystery Show @ NYU

09.10.10 Written by Devin Chanda

It isn’t just the kinda-old hip-hop heads who wanna see OutKast return. Just ask the couple thousand kids in attendance at NYU’s Skirball Center two nights ago.

As an annual gift to the new freshmen, the school throws a mystery concert to kick off the school year, in which the bill is announced the day of the show. So, following openers Dr. Dog and The Knocks, General Patton came out to a hero’s welcome. Those making all of the noise were only about 7 or 8 the last time ‘Kast released a true group album. Yet, many matched Big Boi word for word during the likes of “Player’s Ball,” “Rosa Parks,” and “So Fresh, So Clean” and “Shutterbug,” too. As Andre is finding out as he hits the road more and more, something strange tends to happen when an artist is forced to soldier on without a bandmate—the crowd begins to fill that void.

True story, I have this song on a CD in my car and it comes right Yelawolf’s and Gucci Mane’s “Wanna Party.” It’s a crazy transition, but one that sounds natural, Nearly three weeks after the song surfaced, the quintet from La La Land have a visual to bolster the buzz behind their infectious first single, “Give A Little More.” Read the rest of this entry »

Money, Powerless & RESPECT

09.10.10 Written by Beware

Yesterday, I was caught up complaining to The Crew about my financial woes, legitimately acknowledging their advice on budgeting time, money and life. Despite the fiscal disparities faced, I proceeded to cop a quarterback of paranoia and ended up spending eight bones on the latest edition of RESPECT. Read the rest of this entry »

DJ Drama & Gucci Mane – Ferrari Music Mixtape

09.10.10 Written by J. Tinsley

I learned a long time ago to never judge a book by its cover. Making an ass of yourself is not fun and people never seem to let it die. Case in point, David and my NFL predictions. With that being said, please tell me that’s not Gucci’s actual tracklist for The Appeal. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong and I’ll man up to it. Something tells me I’m not though.
