The Cud Bud is always on the pursuit of happiness but the mojo in his dope is so potent, his tongue can slice like a Ginsu without warning. Gracing the cover of Complex’s Oct/Nov issue, Scotty held no qualms about opening up about using nose candy or speaking his peace on a few issues. Or war, given your point of view.
When asked about the kid from D.C…
Complex: Speaking of Wale, when you hit that fan at your show last December, he came out with a line about it ["Throwin' 'round wallets like the dude that Kid Cudi hit," from "Thank You Freestyle"].
Kid Cudi: It wasn’t a shot, it’s just a simple-ass rhyme by a simple-ass rapper. You can’t let that shit faze you. That’s one of those raps that just shows the world that you wack. Why would you even use that as a metaphor? Everybody think they Hov. Niggas ain’t got the magic like they think they do; there’s only a couple of wizards in this game. I’m a wizard and I know it.
Playing with the devil’s baby powder…
Complex: How heavy did the drug use get?
Kid Cudi: I started doing cocaine to get through interviews, ’cause people wanted to know a lot about my personal life and I wasn’t prepared for a 60 Minutes interview every time. Doing bumps I was able to get through the day, but then I would smoke weed to calm me down—it was the only way I could get through the day without people noticing I was doing it.
And the overhand hook that got him booted from Lady Gaga’s tour…
Kid Cudi: It was. I apologized to that young man I hit—we hung out, he’s the coolest kid in the world. But she’s going to kick me off the tour because she didn’t want that negative type of energy at her shows? Word? I never did nothing to that girl. Every time I saw her I gave her mad respect, showed her mad love. It didn’t matter, I still got paid. [She] spent all her money on her shows, so I probably made more off her tour than she did. That’s the “ha ha ha, isn’t it ironic?” moment.
With arguably every leak looking more promising than the last and honest recklessness like this, Mr. Rager’s side of the story can’t come soon enough.

wow…just lost any respect i had for CuDi. you ain’t good enough to be that arrogant and calling your peers “simple.” sit down, skinny pants.
This is one of the more raw interviews I have seen. Kinda reminiscent of Kanye ego-wise.
NOW THAT’S AN ARTIST
#BASEDFORLIFE
I ain’t even trippin b/c at least he was honest. I didn’t say correct or founded in his arguments, but at least he didn’t bullshit, like so many artists do.
damn…he shit on wale like that? wowwwwwwww. um…he doesn’t wanna see wale when it comes to mc’ing though…and we ALLLL know that. fucking cokehead.
Are your peers not seeing that?
Kid Cudi: The last album, I let people dis me, throw out those jabs in their verses and have their little slick remarks. This time around, I’m not fucking around. I have no time to think about other niggas. These other motherfuckers like feeding off another nigga’s energy, so they mention their name. You hear me talk about niggas? I don’t even talk about Kanye, and that’s my homeboy! They talk about Kanye like they’re bosom buddies with this nigga. Talking about “I be in Hawaii”—man, shut the fuck up, why you got to tell everybody everything? Then people like Wale get mad that ‘Ye ain’t give him no beats—’Ye ain’t give you no beats because we ain’t fucking with your raps. It’s not a conspiracy theory. We don’t fuck with you musically, so we’re not going to provide music for you. The shit is a service, it’s a quality of a certain standard. Niggas are just so thirsty it’s ridiculous. I’ve been eating humble pie forever, and people still call me an asshole. These people don’t know my fucking life—now I’m going to give them something to talk about.
^ he was clearly high.
he doesn’t wanna see wale when it comes to mc’ing though…and we ALLLL know that. fucking cokehead.
==============
lol damn straight. he may be honest, gotty, but what good is that when you spout off retard comments? sure, he’ll get publicity, but he comes off as unlikable.
“I can’t be a loser, could’ve figured that/I can’t be a lame, I’m cooler than that/I feel I love the fame, then I hate a bad word/thinkin’ now what I should be Twitterin’.”
Scott, if that’s what you call a verse, then you have absolutely no right criticizing Wale on the terms of his lyricism. As an Ohioan, it’s getting harder and harder to back up and defend your music. You’re teetering on LeBron James territory.
And is it ironic that these lines come from a CuDi song titled, “Simple As”?
*DEAD* this dude shit on wale hard as fuck. i thought they were cool?
best quote of the interview:
“Just for the record, it bugged me out that people said it was liquid cocaine. No, I’m just fucking rich, and my blow comes in a jar.”
It’s been building up for a minute I assume. Wale even made mention to it on More About Nothing.
Kid Cudi for 2nd best interview of the year or does he top Gibbs’ candor?
A0 who gave him a pass to call out anyone’s rappin ability? Nigga Souljja boi got more bars than you
B) realy Cui you shit on metaphors and claim to be too poetic? pretty obvious you aint pass English class. Great poems live off metaphors.
C) you had akid then you kept on wylin out..wtf!!
Looks like Mr. Rager has some #Ether before that interview. I’m actually quite curious to see what Mr. Folarin has to say about it. Hopefully, no unnecessary beef will come from it.
Yeah if anything this will garner more respect for Cudi from me. I might not agree with everything he says but I respect the dude for speaking his mind and not being a puppet.
Schooled in the Kanye West Academy of Public Relations.
I like Wale’s music but he does have some cringe-worthy rhymes sometimes
e.g. “So fly I should be seen in jets”
Still has a bunch of hot songs though.
Cudi needs to chill the ef out though …. as someone noted above his stuff can be as simplistic.
21st century rap beef is not as entertaining as 20th century rap beef.
Y’all don’t remember when they were arguing on Twitter bacc when Cudi still used his?
@TC…i missed that. maybe complex will rekindle that shit w/ screengrabs or something as a follow up to this story.
Ye must be a bad influence. Cudi you haven’t made anything remotely close to Kanye’s level to be this Primadonna. I see a career ending shortly.
In most of Cudi’s interviews he comes off as he felt like he has reached the pinnacle heights of his career when he only just begun. I am so tired of these WWE rap beefs.
LOL@ him declaring himself a Wizard. Dead@ Cudi becoming French talk bout We don’t believe in you musically. Nigga you’se a worker!!! You have nor make any managerial decisions at G.O.O.D Music. GLC is closer to being an A&R there than Cudi. lol
TC:
You are right, they did have a virtual cat fight on twitter, so I take back the WWE line. It’s not fake it’s just corny to see to corn balls having a spat. lol
Gibbs for best interview of the year. That shit was just way too real. Cudi came with guns on this one, but Freddie’s interview was a whole different story.
And Wale’s response: “n*ggas lettin that liquid cocaine get to them…..lets go then”
Backpack Beef…lol
gibbs interview shits on this. cocaine is for faggots.
cudi is so fucking wack…i cant believe how hard yall ride his dick over here.
Even having not listened to this aggin’s first album, i’m certain he is in no position to throw shots at anybody doing music.
Nigga you’se a worker!!! You have nor make any managerial decisions at G.O.O.D Music.
——-
Bwahahaha!
^^^ amen thats that bullshit that makes me think Cudi is wack…get got on soem “superstar/rockstar LA Hollywood” type steez with the drug usage…gtfoh.
Now he gonna talk about his problems and struggles with drugs like he’s on some Eminem Recovery crap…whatever he did the drugs just so he could talk about it and get the controversy and attention and then be able to talk about it in his music.
anybody got that link to that Gibbs interview…
Nigga you’se a worker!!! You have nor make any managerial decisions at G.O.O.D Music.

Bwahahaha!

i don’t see this “beef” going anywhere and i got respect for both artist but…..

Co-signature.
wait wait, Wale is his peer? goh
Can somebody tell me if this guy raps or sings?
If he is a rapper, direct me to the songs I should have heard him display his lyrical abilities on.
If he is a singer, where does he fit? Is he RnB, Alternative Rock, or a Pop singer?
wale uses words cudi’s never heard of.
Kid Cudi for 2nd best interview of the year or does he top Gibbs’ candor?
=============
i don’t see how tossing jabs at those more talented than you and admitting that you’re too much of a bitch to talk to people without being on coke qualifies as quality interview material.
Say what you want about Cudi but this interview was raw and this shit gives him (and Wale) publicity.
lets admit it most artist are better strung out on drugs
(eminem)
GetMoney:
Not all publicity is good publicity. I agree Cudi is totally unflitered in this interview and that makes it an interesting read because you are not going to hear the same “It is what it is….” type of answers. But you can be honest in an interview and in life without coming off as an egotiscal ass; Cudi hasn’t learned that yet.
Its good that he speaks his truth, but making enemies is never the way to get ahead mang. Lady Gaga is like the biggest thing out there right now, I’d treat her like the Queen.
Man yall are trippin’. That Tila Tequila interview was the best of 2010 so far lol.
wale’s “numbers won” track references this beef somewhat.
Man yall are trippin’. That Tila Tequila interview was the best of 2010 so far lol.
=======================================================================
This is in the top 5, but nothing tops Waka Flocka’s interview on 106 and Park. They had the nerve to ask him “So Wacka!!, what are your thoughts on education?” Wacka: Blank Stare! Blank Stare! Blinks eyes twice mumbles some incorherent bull. Yo yall gonna have to let me answer that again. LOL!! WAKA lol
Rocsi and Terrance should be ashamed asking that dullard that question. A good christian wouldn’t ask that. lol
Wale aint friendly…Kid Cudi thinking he hard cus he punched a few drunk fans…Wale is DC for real…niggas get murked easily
This nigga Cudi is the simplest rapper period. Half the time the nigga don’t even rhyme.
As far as albums…AD and Man on The Moon were pretty much equally hot to me. If anything…Wale is severely underrated.
That nigga is just a better rapper period. Can switch topics all that shit. Kid Cudi always sound depressed
Cudi started some new shit with “We don’t fuck with you musically.”
You can NOT like punchline rap but cmon, really?..thats part of the game! Hip-Hop is built on metaphors and double meaning and invented words. Don t act like ur mightier than thou cuz u think ur a damn poet. I have a BA in English with a focus on creative writing. I can write a poem for u right now, dude. but i dont hate on anyone that uses their writing talents in a different way. Punk ass. You aint better then NO ONE. ur just different. and the reason ur so fuckin weak is cuz u TRY to be different. U want so bad to be different when ur just a regular ass nigga chasin the fame. I know for a fact that Kanye is different. He is who he is, and i believe, for better or for worse, that he is who we see. But Cudi is a fraud.
And “poetically” ur fuckin weak, so don’t try to use that as a scapegoat for why u cant produce a decent quotable. U group yourself in with Kanye because youre unsure of yourself. Kanye has never said..”oh, me and Cudi as a team are unstoppable”. He knows creatively that hes the fuckin man, with or without Cudi. Cudi is riding the coattails of something bigger than him (Jay/Kanye).
more about nothing > man on the moon
The mixtape about nothing>>Man On The Moon.
Damn I lost a lot of respect for Kid Cudi right there. While Cudi’s more experimental I’ll give him that, Wale has a gang load of lyricism over Cudi, he could destroy him. I’d have to go with team Wale on this one.
Kid Cudi:
“Hmmmmm
a couple weeks no talking I seen my baby
i missed you so damn much
I wish we could start over
I told my baby
This what this b-tch tells me ”
vs.
Wale:
“Uhh! yeah smokin yeah a should stop, everyday is 420 every moments Woodstock, everything is good but them haters wish i would stop penetrationg the culture but i do it til’ this Wood Stop, Uhh!
Magnificent, anti-impotent, landslide winning by Lyricis,
Got it lock like Styles Sheek Kiss and them the irony in that is i aint all about the benjamins, “
“I am a wizard…”
aaaaaannnnnd Scottie Folarin springs the trap that got the internuts going mangoes. Yet another win for the freshman class of 09… Got us talking about it, free pub for both… Genius.
Scottie’s point is somewhat undermined by the fact that most WHITE people dont consider him a rapper, much less hip-hop heads, but still, I think Wale needs a quality filter on his punchlines, cause he does use every one he thinks up, good or bad.
The line in question is kinda dope tho. He’s saying he throws his wallet, aka throws his money, aka has money to throw, akaa… Icant.
Nows the time for Big Sean to finally get that MTV look…
I wanna know about this Freddie Gibbs interview
This guy needs a swift kick in the nuts
Gibbs’ interview
http://www.complex.com/blogs/2010/07/29/freddie-gibbs-talks-major-label-saga-str8-killa-rapping-djs-rick-ross/
That Gibbs’ interview shits on all
“I like Wale’s music but he does have some cringe-worthy rhymes sometimes ”
BOTH him and Cudi’s rhymes are cringe worthy.I think they dislike each other because they are so much like the other they refuse to see or admit it so instead beef as if anyone really cares that much about either of them.
I never felt anything Wale did but have to admit I liked a few Cudi tracks and still give anything he releases atleast one listen but Wale.. could care less.
ths shit is intense!!!ima hav2 read da article.cudi on som gangsta shit.like yall said at least he was honest n said wht he wantd 2 say.i aint mad at em tho.let tht man b him.he dont fuck wit him musically.thts his decision.
Yeah this interview is intense and honest. Consequently however, Cudi comes off sounding unbelievably butthurt. The whole interview is him screaming how he’s a victim.
Cudi doesn’t fuck with Wale musically not because he thinks Wale’s too simple, but because Wale was the highest profile figure to fry him on a bitch move and he’s still holding a grudge about it.
Pathetic. I like Cudi, but he’s the John Mayer of the rap game. Every time he opens his mouth he says something dumb as shit. Shut the fuck up and make music.
Lest we all forget, the best song on A Kid Named Cudi was “Is There Any Love?”…
It’s a set up. Mark my words…
Dudes cannot take honesty…
And this one was realer than Gibbs’ interview. At least Cudi personally knows the dude he’s talkin about.
And you can’t forget about that Jay E interview where he was keepin it 300%
*the one about sour NY rappers
see this is the difference between the Joell Ortiz clip I just posted and this nonsense. who actually gave a fuck if Kid Cudi did blow? raise your hand. i hate when artists do this shit. if all you needed to get by on was your talent you would not be hating on Wale who is just fine as a rapper thank you very much. and you are NO wizard my friend. mixtape good. everything else…pop candy. stop listening to the drugs.
yo I bet this shit is staged to bring Wale a little fame… think about it, you aint hear shit from Wale in a while, he comes out with More About Nothing and on it is a song titled “The Number Won” (song pretty much says there is no beef and they’re both tryna get big) then Complex’s mag drops and Cudi disses Wale for a freestyle verse that came out what… 9 months ago? Wale was QUICK to respond to it on twitter too… it kinda just seems fishy. but IMO, Cudi has no room to call Wale a simple ass rapper, ive yet to hear a bar that Cudi dropped to where I was like, “DAMN, did he really just say that?”, a bar that made me go back and rewind the song to hear it again…. Wale has done that countless times. if they’re beefin though, im not taking any sides, theyre both mad dope IMO.
————————————–
co-fucking sign.
Kid CuDi v. Wale
my $$$’s on Wale….
Wale > Kid Cudi
on the rhyming tip
on the street tip
on the personality tip
Yeah, i’m pickin sides early.
Am I the only one who remembers Wale crushing Cudi on his own shit on the “Is There Any Love?” joint from the A Kid named Cudi mixtape?
Wale should get onstage and apologize at every concert for these lines:
“Let’s talk about the cars ya’ll got
You say you got alotta whips, well I got a lot!
I got the right to be cocky
Get so much cut disc jockeys jock me!”
I always wondered – how could he have written that down without laughing? Did he not realize how horrible those lines where?
“Let’s talk about the cars ya’ll got
You say you got alotta whips, well I got a lot!
I got the right to be cocky
Get so much cut disc jockeys jock me!”
i must belong in the slow class cus i thought the car and lot bar was hot.
For the record, Wale is a simple ass rapper. I’ve been thinking the same thing since I first heard him in ’08.
Cudi needs to be more humble though. I’m a fan but cmon son you gotta know your role. Learn from Kanye’s mistakes.
They’er both pussies :P
imo Cudi>Wale
only good shit that Whale put out was 100 miles and running
the rest of his shit has that boring ass forced out flow
TELL ME WHATCHU KNOW ABOUT DREEEAAAAMIIN DREEAMINNN! Tell me whatchu know about night terrors every night…
Lmao I think Cudi still wets the bed with those pansy ass lines, will somebody loan him their nuts so he can man the fuck up.
Cocaine is a hell of drug
People here be getting mad for no fucking reason-all of you SWEAR wale is good,IMO that dude fits right in w/ all these other “real hardcore MCs”
nothing but a follower of this new trend of using too many metaphors to the point where yo shit dont make sense-throwing out rhymes just to use up metaphors”my music is bananas, so i attract monkeys” nigga that shit is high school stuff
get with that kid cudi stuff and speak ur mind-enough w/ being”hard” and coming from the streets<–that shits been over with-its a new era homie
cudi deserves to talk shit-he's stayed quite and is chill AF
Kid cudiis an addict…wale i sreal cudi is crazy
The only area in which Man on the Moon > Attention: Deficit is in sales. MotM had two hot tracks (“Soundtrack 2 My Life”- which is real whiny lyrically; “Pursuit of Happiness”- which is nothing without Ratatat and is also real whiny lyrically).
Cudi’s good at being a niche rapper playing to the fratboys and skinny jean kids. Wale’s got actual skill even if I could do without the self-serious spoken word stuff sometimes.
I’d say this feels staged but 1) Cudi always has come off like a butthurt dickhead in interviews, going back at least a year ago and 2) Wale has always been a dude to emotionally respond to stuff/abuse Twitter.
All that said, “REVOFEV” and “Mr Rager” are both guilty pleasure songs of mine. Notice I didn’t say good songs. “Wylin Cuz I’m Young” has a hot chorus but proves that Cudi doesn’t have any bars.
All of you are too caught up w/ original hip hop please realize that shit is over with-aint nobody rappin like bone thugs or wu tang any more-once again its a new era and thats exactly why cudi has it goin’-HE IS NOT A RAPPER–if youre shitting on him cause you think he’s a rapper then youre one big dumbfuck. stop talking about”he aint got no rhymes, he aint got no bars” he aint trynna to be that-your judging the wrong thing
so in my opinion thyere both not even in the same category
and wtf is up w/ pointing out skinny jeans??? that just proves your still stuck in the old days w/ gangster musik.
did cudi just call wale a simple ass rapper? cudi can’t even rap, he spits wack ass lines on an autotune. what is he smoking
EVERYBODY JUST NEEDS TO CHILL OUT AND SMOKE SOME…..
Wale=Drake
kudos to however pointed out that hes another vague ass lyricist. That shit is way cornier then anything Cudi does with his adolescent lyrics.
Wale may be from DC but check his pedigree. He was a spoiled little bastard before he got in rap. Trying to pull off some faux gangsta look.
Cudi is from cleveland. Im from there so i know what the city is actually like but didnt research his origins yet, so hes suspect himself for now.
To me Cudi>Wale because his style varies from maui wowie to sky might fall
Wale is like the same things everybody else said before, but more generalized and over a elementary music class beat everytime.
yall niggas dont listen to all cudi’s shit wale is trash compared 2 him yeh did u ever think thats y kid cudi and ye are so good they don’t fukin use words tht rhyme half the time they jus use shit that goes together and flows thats why their shit sound better than half the “rappers” out there because its different and better.
Cudi is doing his thing, he goes to the beat of his own drum, he’s a real artist. People can take it or leave. Simple as that. No time for lame dudes, scared about what another dude is thinking or saying about them. It’s just corny on a whole new level. You either fuck with him or you don’t. Simple as that, but if you need to come on a blog site of leave a comment just talking shit, then you’re a lame. Simple as that. You ain’t feelin’ it, then fuck you and continue doing you. What is the world coming to when you have guys hating on what another is wearing? So what if he wears skinny jeans? What does that have to do with you? Is he forcing YOU to wear skinny jeans? Lames. Need someone to validate them. Sheep.
Lol cockiest guy! The interviews I’ve seen him in he’s usually very humble, and one cool, smooth cat. This time around he clearly doesn’t give a shit.
But here’s the thing, you can’t diss on metaphoric rappers. Some of these mainstream kids have some creative rhymes. I agree though, Cudi’s style is more fluid, offbeat. To me, it shows more skill as a rapper and a storyteller. But then again you lose room for creativity so it’s a toss up.
It’s what your preference is I guess. Both these cats could spit it till the sun comes up.
