DJ AM was always an inspiring figure to me, a role-model if you will. He was one of those nothing to something guys who relentlessly overcame every obstacle in the way to living his dream and persevered to eventually become the very best of his craft. As a DJ, there was no one better to emulate, and I often studied his videos and tried to replicate his scratches and techniques. I admired his determination to obsessively slog away until he perfected and attained everything he was trying to do.
However there was also a much darker side to the man, as he battled through drug addiction for much of his life. Growing up in a household where his father was a frequent drug user, eventually he embraced the lifestyle and soon found himself facing a heavy crack addiction throughout most of his 20s. After hitting rock bottom in a suicide attempt, he used the same resolve and grit that he used to learn DJing in an attempt to go clean and eventually became a symbol of hope to those struggling through the same battle.

I’m listening to “Adam”, Skillz’ tribute to him.
VERY dope song. Heartfelt.
What was dope about AM, as a DJ, is the music he spun spanned different genres, yet they were all crowd pleasers. The man would go from Led Zeppelin to Biggie in a heartbeat and make the party extra live.

and if you can find it, his June 22nd, 2008 set from the Do-Over is classic as well
the fix your face set from coachella last year is my jam
I rarely listen to straight DJ mixes but those Fix Your Face mixtapes?
Crack.
It’s always a tragedy when someone’s demons get the best of them, especially someone as talented as Adam was.
RIP DJ AM

Crack^^^
Maybe not the best word to use given the circumstances.
^ LMAOOOOOOOOO
oh shit, pardon me for laughing. God bless the dead, but that was funny, Amp. You wrong for that!
This site has 20 of his mixes for free download. I think most are live ones he did at various clubs and events. All pretty solid.

i think that’s where i grabbed a shitload of mixes last year. if not, they’re rehosted from some other site. either way, i stocked up on AM material. One of the best to ever mix genres.
