It’s rare in the days of green screens and redundant themes that music videos are treated as a medium for storytelling. Providing the outlaw yin to the original video’s metaphorical yang, Erykah & Rick embark on a journey too big for one song to contain.

Although classified as a video, short film might be a more fitting description. Inhabiting the space somewhere between Blaxploitation flick & home video footage, the clip evokes the feeling of a silent movie where the music is there more to move the story along than anything else. The grainy film roll befits the analog girl who’s embraced the digital world as it introduces the latest incarnation of Bonnie & Clyde to the masses. And the ending – while it may not have the powerful meaning of the original video – ties everything together while leaving the door open for whichever track Erykah fancies to share in the next video.
