According to Drake, his first-born [studio] baby coulda-woulda-shoulda been even better than the streak of majorness you have on your iPod. Instead of opening with the buoyant and revealing sprinklings of “Fireworks,” Drizzy intended for the lyrical inferno of “9 A.M. In Dallas” to jumpstart Thank Me Later. And “Shut ‘Em Down” did leak in March to his detriment. (Patrick M. and I think it’s the best track on the tape; MZ, not so much.) Maybe the anticipation of a bigger payoff caused that record to be ignored.
However, we all agreed “Cece’s Interlude” was easily replaceable. To the left, to the left with ya. J. Tinsley demanded “Fall For Your Type” instead, which ironically, Drake agrees. Perhaps it will appear on this methodical R&B mixtape?

You Know You Know belonged on there as well.
Still though, it is a good album, no denying.
I’m sorry but ya’ll dick ride this dude way too much. It’s just how I feel when I read your posts about him. No big deal
So Why Wasn’t Thank Me Later Perfect?
====================================
Because it was a Drake album.

So Why Wasn’t Thank Me Later Perfect?
^^^^^^^
OH OH! Lemme answer this one!
Because it perfectly replicated the sound of a weeping vagina storming the charts under the guise of rap.
I concur with the “too much dick-riding” comment.
I still dont see it with this dude. *shrug*
while i do agree that 9am would’ve been a great opener, fireworks is still the perfect starting point. And yeah, cece’s interlude is the skip track of all skip tracks.
lol am i the only one that thinks this album had like 3 good songs?
@ Southern
TML deserves to be in everyone’s top 5 of all time. It’s that good.
J/k.
I don’t get the hype but whatever. Pop trends come and go.
Opinions. Everyone’s entitled to theirs.

…and express them we shall! If we play this right, we might have another “Bishop Lamont’s Eyebrows” on tap here. C’mon TSSers, ohletsdowit!
lol am i the only one that thinks this album had like 3 good songs?
========================================
most likely. i had to stop listening because my estrogen levels rose with each song. I still havent found a good one.
I know its old. but 38 second mark. you can’t say pause or no homo after a comment like this… you just can’t.

boys and girls welcome to the Barbershop Blog
Thank Me Later……. sure maybe after the 2nd album (shrug)
Yeah 9am in Dallas would have been the perfect intro…. but what do I know I haven’t even heard the whole album
but what do I know I haven’t even heard the whole album

Pretty much. It stands the same for those who haven’t given a complete & thorough listen to a lot of albums, yet they complain.
And you know me. You don’t like what we write, go start your own movement lol.
Cookin Soul’s “Thank Us Later” >>>>> TML
Although “Cannonn’s Interlude” may somehow be even more disposable than “Cece’s”…
Although even with the benefit of heatrock remixes w/live instrumentation and well-chosen blended features, Drake’s soft, mildly pandering R&B still turns me off for the most part. “Fireworks” (and I prefer the leaked version that starts w/Alicia and doesn’t have the sung part before the chorus) and “Thank Me Now” are the only two tracks that really stuck with me after a few listens.
Drake’s succeeded in creating a unique sound and cultivating a new fanbase. Just not my thing even if I can get down with the beats; the singing is too soft and the “Shut em down/Onyx” flow getting played into the ground didn’t help.
although the level of fandom for Drake reaches near dick-riding levels…..
I do have to admit…TML is solid. nothing more, nothing less…IMO.
you know…..people are gonna claim bias in plenty peoples’ opinions. it’s what yall like…what we like…it’s all different. different tastes for different peeps.
“if I don’t like it, I don’t like it. that don’t mean that I’m hatin” – Common
some peeps need to catch wind of that quote and apply before any more criticisms are lashed out. including those from myself.
hey it did sell a million copies in the us so it wasn’t that bad guys
Implying TML wasn’t perfect.
Blah blah blah blah. You wall flowers can diss the guy till you’re blue in the face lmao.
TML = dope, dope album.
hey it did sell a million copies in the us so it wasn’t that bad guys

album sales dont have any bearing on quality of the album anymore.
So Why Wasn’t Thank Me Later Perfect?

Drake was nervous about the Prop 8 ruling. Now he and Wayne can go to california and be legal.
album sales dont have any bearing on quality of the album anymore.

On one accord, this somewhat is true. However, in 2010, going platinum says something. Especially when it leaks two weeks before hand.

That you have a good marketing team with lots of financial and major outlet backing?
So Why Wasn’t Thank Me Later Perfect?

Shut Up! It WAS Perfect! I can’t believe how many people want 2 hate on his 14 or 15 track Magnum Opus that he Blessed the world with! So what if I’m on my period and I have Zhu Zhu Pets @ the end of my bed? Da Lohrd has sent the savior Of Hip-Hop 2 us and he will be the greatest of all time! In fact I’d argue that he already is! I already put him above Rakim, Jay-Z, Tupac, Biggie, Eminem, Scarface, Big Daddy Kane and Redman. TML is the Reasonable Doubt of our generation! He makes thugs cry. THUGS!!!!!!! Oh and “CeCe’s Interlude” is the new “Time’s Up!” I said it!
Pause. LOL!
what are zhu zhu pets?
They’re toy hamsters that I guess are able to move around when you hit their on switch. The kids are going crazy over them.
tml gets better with every listen; it reminds me a lot of carter III only less inconsistent from track to track
It is perfect:
It’s impossible to make a perfect ALBUM when you give away all yoru best tracks, or use them on previous projects when they could have been saved (Side note: I ain’t mad though, the SFG EP really ended up putting up big numbers with both “Fear” and “I’m Goin In” on it, would love to see this more in the industry).
You look at tracks like:
“Play Ball”
“Mo Milly”
“Money To Blow”
“Say Something”
“It’s Been A Pleasure”
“Killer” (The one with Nipsey)
“Juice”
“Put It Down”
“The One” (I heard the Drake reference for when I was in Toronto and was amazed, I hope it sees the light of day)
“You Know You Know”
“9 AM In Dallas”
“Paris Morton Music”
“Unthinkable”
“My Darling Baby”
Re-arrange it however you like, thats a brilliant album… Drake is giving away his best work, because he’s credited for just about all of the songs heard above in some way or another
Too many people compare Drakes release with other rappers debut albums; The fact is, it’s impossible… Drake has released a few unofficial bodies of work that led up to the point we’re at now that it’s impossible to even consider this a debut album… Room for Improvement, Comeback Season and So Far Gone created a hype that was well deserved based on what those three “records” produced.
The album itself created a juggling sound, much like SFG did, when you mix a catchy flow with a easy to listen to voice, lukewarm vocal talents and assertive but creative instrumentals, it was a perfect debut album on the basis there’s still much to improve on while still a) Keeping people listening, b) Seeing it fly of the shelves, and c) Actually releasing a collection of work with solid replay value.
I’m excited for his future, as I was with Kid Cudi, BOB, Asher Roth… Hip-Hop is in good hands, like it or not.
I bump TML daily – it is the only album to currently hold that title for me.
The album is good. Not SFG good… but it gets better with each listen (and I dance in my seat every single time “Show Me A Good Time” comes on).
I think Aubrey is a victim of the success others placed on him. We start to hate the ones so many others love.
^^^
chris ima take it that you’re a drake stan/fan. lol
Nah i understand where you’re coming from but no way in hell drake’s album was perfect.
I will continue to say this until lighting blots strike me from the clouds, but how the hell do you proclaim to want to have a classic hip-hop debut when 70% of it is a pop album?
Now im not gonna front like i didnt know all along that drake rapped and sang, but c’mon fam, its your DEBUT ALBUM. I think he should have just went all out and had songs like 9 am in dallas on his album.
Of course you have to range from different topics on your songs and not just do freestyle after freestyle like wayne does, but still.
You add in lyrical fire + storytelling and it = 5 cigs. Look at More About Nothing that Wale just released. That could be one of the best mixtapes to come out this year and it had everything that you could want in a mixtape/album. Storytelling, Beats, Lyrical Fire, Hot Metaphors & Punchlines.
Drake is someone who i critique over and over again even tho i download select songs from him, because i wanna see him do great things. He has potential, he realli does….
That you have a good marketing team with lots of financial and major outlet backing?
===============================
Lol, forget it. You’re right.
Hip Hop fans don’t listen to Drake….their girlfriends do.
His album had 2 tracks that get replay on the MYpod-fireworks, unforgettable…and thats it.
hes big because of cosigners who hook him up with great beats and guest appearances. Dude can flow (ignorant shit) but a whole album of that delayed, punchline rap….is boring as fuck.
my 2 cents
@leegle
wow. parenting fail. i bet they are the next pokemon or some shit. straight from asia
@tinsley
i know plenty of people support it, the vast majority even, but i dont, and as an American ive been taught that I am right, they are wrong and fuck everything else. Also in the 17th through 19th centuries the vast majority of Americans approved of a system of labor that utilized Africans without compensation and with no laws against treatment (I actually got reprimanded for throwing the word around “irresponsibly” in an American history class recently. Who would have thought telling the truth would be irresponsible.)
Drake just didnt make a great album…I feel like Drake may drop into 50 cent territory in a bit. I hope grows more musically though. Dudes got pull, didnt really dickride the album though. I think ya’ll wanted to have a great Drake album because ya’ll boosted him up…and ya’ll give Rozay a shitty score because you dissed him like crazy…and you did the same with The Darkside…TSS is pretty biased honestly.
The album was ok….nothing really out the ordinary. It’s doing well because its hip-hop that females can listen too. He does need to switch up his style a little bit though because his rap style is getting repetitve.
the machine worked well with the promotion, it is up to listeners to be able to figure out what is good or not, from the first point you heard this cheap punchline rapping singer knew he was nothing more than an entertainer, the girls think he looks cute, the dudes just gobble whatever is sold to them, and there goes the generation of tight clothes and funny hair-dos…..
here goes the generation of tight clothes and funny hair-dos…..
=========================================
not to mention, silly glasses, 80′s sneakers, skateboards, feminine behavior, sweet drinks, prescription pills (they have their place however), and youtube/video blogging beef.
but that darling nikka joint is the truth
I personally enjoyed TML. It definitely was a middle of the road album when compared to the rapping prowess of Comeback Season and the theme of SFG, but it had it gems. The intro to Show Me a Good Time almost warrants a skip, but once the actual song kicks in, I love it. Nikki stopping mid verse in Up All Night was also highly annoying and it makes me wanna slap a ho. Like I said about Gaga, you’ll see her in the ipod but not in the whip unless the weather requires me to roll up my windows.
And yall gotta stop going on my generation like this lol.
@athrin
i forgot about “swag”. That has to be the worst of all. Its called confidence, its nothing new. dictionary definition of swag: An ornamental drapery or curtain draped in a curve between two points… Interesting.
However you should make fun of the older heads. you know, make fun of us for loose fitting, comfortable clothes. Shoes that actually serve more than just an aesthetic purpose. Thought provoking/conscious and gangster rap. Surviving the crack era. Electing George Bush once but allowing him to be president twice, Vanilla Ice, Ying Yang Twins..ooh shit, nevermind, let me stop.
Perfect? The reason it wasn’t perfect is because its a fucking Drake album. There was one, possibly two decent tracks on there. He’s as one-dimensional as they come and appeals to the lowest common denominator.
Its possibly the least “hip-hop” hip-hop album of all time. Its like Miss J from America’s Next Top Model decided he was going to go “street”.
Awful.
