J. Cole – “Blow Up”

By Ryan J. / 08.13.10

It’s no surprise that the names of J. Cole’s projects have perfectly foreshadowed his career trajectory. The Come Up and The Warm Up define in six words Cole’s gradual ascension from striving, starving student to Roc Nation cover boy.

With Fayettenam’s prodigal son’s latest leak, “Blow Up,” handclaps, thunderous bass and a yodel-like background sample highlight his boisterous rhymes (“Now don’t it sound legendary/Live enough to resurrect the dead and buried/This for n!ggas who ain’t satisfied with secondary/This for my sistas who ain’t satisfied with secretary”).

As the date for his still untitled debut creeps closer and closer, let “Blow Up” serve as your next clue to where the young MC’s career is heading.
