Remember when we depended on magazines completely and an entertainer would do the typical press run before and after a release before slowly stepping out of the limelight until the next album? Yeah, been over and things are no longer done that. The antithesis of rap today is the hiatus. There little mystique left in the game as now we’re inundated with their presence, for better or worse. So, it seemed almost abnormal when Wale did the opposite of the current norm by taking a break from the cameras and media’s attention.

But he did what every artist should do — he spent dedicated time in the lab. More and more, artists are more worried about developing followers & friends than their art. I wish more cats would do the same, pushing away from the keyboard and putting time in with the mic. That’s not likely to happen but at least I got it off my chest.

Back to Wale, today’s offering includes an mp3 and a video update. He’s back to Twittering and announcing plans to drop More About Nothing, a presumed follow-up to 2008′s Mixtape About Nothing. No matter what anyone says otherwise, that mixtape trumped nearly every other release that year (I see you TC). Left to his own devices, I’m willing to wager he’ll at least match the original.

Now, let’s hope Interscope’s been working as well to clear up their distribution methods for the next album.
