This pick has been inspired by listening to old DV One mixes while I rode around today. From Bohannon’s Stop & Go, released in 1973. Read the rest of this entry »
Foot Locker’s Friends & Family sale starts tomorrow so double check the couch cushions and reevaluate tomorrow’s paycheck (you really don’t need food next week anyways, do you?). Although the restrictions on what you can buy have gotten more strict over the years, 25% is still 25%. Read the rest of this entry »
Yesterday, the kids and I stopped by Gamestop so they could pick out Wii games. As we walked out the door, I caught a glimpse of the Xbox set up and they had some basketball game playing. I’m not the resident gamer so I have no idea which video game it was but the movements were fluid and life-like while graphics were amazingly crisp, almost better than watching an actual NBA game in HD. One would assume that high profile co-signs, along with an undeniable skill set would be more than enough to ensure safe passage on the path to stardom. Unfortunately, fame is a fickle beast and who you know or who you’re presumably better than carries little weight as to how far you’ll actually go. With the release and commercial disappointment of his debut Blue Collar, Chicago emcee Rhymefest knows this just as well as anyone. Read the rest of this entry »
While he certainly wasn’t the leading candidate to get dropped from this PSA of bologna, KiD CuDi’s The Legend of Mr. Rager has been delayed by a couple of weeks. No one actually believed it was going to fly in the first place, did you? G.O.O.D. Music Day? Really??? More like an A&R’s nightmare the way these albums are selling. Read the rest of this entry »
Another week brings more dopeness from the shores of the Mississippi, as TSS proudly presents to you Gotta Be Karim’s full-length album Bullets & Books. The aptly-titled record features the expected combination of brawn and brain. Featured tracks such as “Hello St. Louis” and “Early” epitomize Kareem’s mentality, a man capable of intimidating bravado and thoughtful subtlety behind the microphone. Read the rest of this entry »
You can call Aleon Craft weird, strange, crazy or deranged, just make sure you have the “dope” in front. The ingenius genius from the big bad South is lending his talents to Mick Boogie & Terry Urban’s The Stragazing Soundtrack later this artist which are mostly songs being executed live on the Atlanta Stargazing Tour as we speak. There was a time when I would have fought hard for Lupe. Now, not so much. That’s not to say I’m not a fan of dude’s work and won’t support it when the time comes because I will. As in a lot of cases though, the reasoning for Lupe’s new album being held hostage for the past year isn’t his doing at all. It’s Atlantic Record’s. For months, Lupe fans have been up at arms about the lack of action surrounding his highly anticipated third project, Lasers. Read the rest of this entry »
Who doesn’t wanna collaborate with Bun B? Feeling left out, Usher made the call for some street cred and star power for his Versus EP which is an extension of his current album Raymond V. Raymond. Slick talkin’ in a broad’s ear well enough to get a giggle and a Parental Advisory sticker, he tells ‘em everything short of “b#tch get in.” Read the rest of this entry »
Whatever you do, don’t forget about Mike Posner. The kid already popped, now it’s time to snap and crackle with his J Records debut 31 Minutes To Takeoff. Cool enough to be a rapper but born to be a singer, MP can take any subject, solemn or not and turn it into a freakin’ party! Read the rest of this entry »
Inga Marchand has to be the rap game’s Walter Matthau; ringleading an Odd Couple-like relationship with her neighbor Arlene Raymond for several years. If you follow the foolishness of the Fox, you may remember she was pinned with an order of protection for BlackBerry-whippin’ Ms. Raymond for something along the lines of a car stereo or breathing air in public (who really knows?). Upcoming 6 Rings release from Jordan Brand. No way I’m rockin’ but I still find the use of reflective 3M and the soft look intriguing. Dropping at other retailers later but RMK has a few pairs now for those looking to pay to play early. Read the rest of this entry »
Let’s all just take these three minutes to eyef#ck Keri while we wait on post-prison T.I. to get the music back on track. Otherwise, there’s no redeeming value in Tiny’s dedication song. Read the rest of this entry »
