The Best Fight Scene Ever?

07.25.10 Written by Gotty™

The title is slightly misleading. It should read “the most hilariously baffling fight scene ever that reminds us why YouTube is so valuable to our culture.” Without the viral video haven, there’s no way I would’ve ever bore witness to such amazing choreography. Read the rest of this entry »

Mika – “I See You”

07.25.10 Written by K1NG

It’s that first date you have that feels like your twentieth. It’s the first time you make a move and she doesn’t pull away. It’s the look she gives you that speaks volumes amidst the silence. It’s not love, but it’s something. It’s a fearful feeling that could go one of two ways. It’s the reason so many shy away from its allure.

“I See You,” a powerful ballad from British Pop titan Mika, is a song dedicated to the wallflower who never peels himself away from his idle post to speak to the one of his dreams. It’s ironic looking back now, realizing the song’s actual meaning, that this specific composition played the soundtrack to one of my own failed attempts at creating something out of nothing. Thankfully, my own jaded association with the song doesn’t trump the quality of the music and it still stands out amongst the best from his 2009 sophomore album The Boy Who Knew Too Much.

Lupe Fiasco – “B.M.F. (Building Minds Faster)”

07.25.10 Written by Gotty™

I think I’m Malcolm X…Martin Luther…Add a King…Add a Junior…

Ingenious chorus. The bars can be your call. Fiasco’s version does have a nice off the cuff feel to it, instead of sounding like a scripted “freestyle.” Read the rest of this entry »

Coming Attractions: Nike Zoom Hyperfuse

07.25.10 Written by Gotty™

Nike’s Zoom Hyperfuse (aka the shoe that Rondo rocked in the playoffs and made noteworthy by sporting a righteous green pair) will be hitting stores soon with a wide array of colorways on the horizon. In last night’s “Blue Vs. White” scrimmage, Team USA members were wearing a traditional White/Navy/Red colorway and we’ll be seeing other country-themed colors as the World Basketball Festival gets ready to crank up in less than a month. The King Henry Skit

07.25.10 Written by Gotty™

Sir Lucious’… “King Henry” skit may be one of the funniest album breaks that I’ve heard in a while and Henry and Keisha speaking in Georgia dialect = comedic gold that I always end up rewinding when I hear it. In fact, it almost ranks up there with alongside other Outkast skits like “Flim Flam.” Read the rest of this entry »

My Christina Milian Conclusion

07.24.10 Written by Gotty™

The-Dream and Christina Milian’s divorce? I couldn’t really care less but it’s not going to get better before it gets messier. Dream’s got his share of hits and songs that I like but overall his music isn’t my cup of coffee. Christina’s played in movies or so they say. All I can vaguely remember is her having a role in one of the Bring It On movies, (one of the best film series ever). Read the rest of this entry »

Fat Joe’s Life Before The Darkside

07.24.10 Written by TC

Even though he’s been grinding out full-lengths since most of the current competition was in grammar school, Fat Joe doesn’t have a 5 Cig album under his belt. He was however, a formidable presence in East Coast Hip-Hop before Southern MCs valued materialistic raps over hard country livin’ and Big Pun crash landed his massive frame onto the Billboard charts. Danny Brown Tells How The Hybrid Came To Be

07.24.10 Written by Gotty™

It’s not particularly uncommon for rappers to flood the listening market with their work. We get mixtaped, trailer’ed and “freestyle’ed” nearly to death. Still, it struck me as odd when Danny Brown followed the release of Detroit State Of Mind 4 so closely with The Hybrid. The Hybrid was definitely more the intentionally more polished of the two and, still, DSoM4 hadn’t even gotten its full term in my iPod rotation. Read the rest of this entry »

Fans of sales, Gourmet footwear or both might find a few Fall kicks @ PLNDR’s current sale. I love the look & style of the honey Cinque’s and copped a pair a while back (previously raved about here). Now Everybody Dougie!

See, you can’t totally fault Big Baby Davis. Not when his favorite rappers are giving Dougie instructions for dead presidents. You probably had no idea who the ruffians were behind the latest fifteen minute hit but with Jermaine Dupri, Bow Wow, B.o.B, Sean Kingston and Red Cafe all have lent their talents on the remix so you can use Cali Swag District for all your rap running gags for the remainder of 2010.
